FTM EC questions - diaper free time & other questions

Hello!!!

I'm an FTM to a three month old. We started EC when he was two months old.  I had to stop for about a week - 10 days when he and I were both down with colds but want to start back up immediately!!!!

I did have lots of success with pees when we were trying at two months. (None on poos though)

I have been having a couple of issues and wanted to get some tips from you experienced ladies!

1. How do you all ladies living in cold weather do diaper free time? My poor LO seems cold when I do it so I wrap him up more than I should.

2. During diaper free time, how do you keep up with the inevitable messes? I have a poo stained white onesie which I fear has met it's match.

3. My baby screams when I position him over the sink/ potty. I hold his back against me, and hold his legs in a seated position, hovering in the air, and point his thingie with one finger.

Are there any other positions that could work better and not have him scream so? I am not sure but I think he doesn't like the position itself.

Any tips would be appreciated.. I have been reading through the archives and there's so much good info here!! Yayyyy!!

I'm in a cold climate too.  So I have DS in a onsie with a long sleeve shirt over top then socks and a pair of "baby legs" leg warmers covering his legs.  As for messes, I don't miss poos as DS is super obvious about when he is going to go, so I'm only dealing with pees and a mattress pad does the trick there.  If he screams when you cue him, I would suggest a different position.  I sit with DS on the toilet.  He obviously doesn't like the position and you don't want him to be frustrated that you aren't listening to him.

I did end up buying baby legs - let me see how it works out

As for positions, do you / does anyone know of any good positions for boys, to pee? I can't bear to see him cry!!

1) and 2) Hi! We live in a cold climate too. We used a variety of methods. You don't have to go literally diaper free to be able to learn cues and EC with great success. Non-waterprood diapers or trainers are great because you can see and feel immediately when they 'go' if there is a miss. For us, we learned cues perfectly without going diaper free. That way there is less of a mess and more warmth in these frigid months! For quick access we used babylegs with a nightgown on top, and a non-waterproof trainer underneath. Sometimes when we were doing awesome with catches, we ditched the trainers. We also really loved split crotch pants and discreet split crotch pants. They open were great for outings with a trainer on top of them. The discreet worked well with drop flaps underneath.

3)There are plenty of positions to try. You could have him sitting on the toilet with you either facing the tank or facing forward. I've inserted a kinda silly pic my boy at about 6 weeks on the potty in that position. He was in the 95th percentile for weight, so a bit of a chubbers! You can also try sitting him on a little potty at the age he is. We set up out potty on the floor in front of a full length mirror. I would sit behind him and support his back and we would coo at each other in the mirror. He loved it. (You may want to get or make a potty warmer if it is really cold)
