MRSA?? Molluscum Contagiosum? HELP!

My 2 year old daughter has been having bumps in her genital area, the backs of her legs, and tummy.  Some of the bumps get pretty red and look like pimples.  Some are smaller, some are larger.  They seem to flare up and get better...only to flare up again.  They are painful if you touch them.  She got them when we moved from AZ to CA 3 months ago.  At first I thought it was a diaper rash.  I finally took her to the dr. today after none of my efforts to treat it have paid off.  The Dr. said it may be MRSA, but she wasn't sure since she couldn't get a culture to test.  She prescribed Bactrim.  I came home and looked all up MRSA and it is very scary.  :(  Does anyone have any experience with this??  Are there more mild cases?  the pictures online seemed to be severe.  My daughter has never had any boils.  Could it be molluscum contagiosum?  or anything else?  

Also, I am leary to put her on the antibiotic.  I don't understand why I would do that is MRSA is something you will have forever.  Unless there is a bad flare up what is the point? Are there any home remedies that anyone has had luck with?  

Any info would be helpful.  I'm really nervous......

Garlic can be effective with MRSA, especially if there are skin lesions.  I'd google it. :)

In what I've read, it seems like MRSA will often keep coming back.  I don't know if that's the case 100% of the time, though.  My Dad has MRSA in his ear--and it's very very difficult to treat.  He's been on numerous $$$$$ drugs as well as over 4+ weeks on IV antiobiotics.  For him, the concern is it going to his brain.

You should also look at cleaning it with Hibiclens or something similar (povidone iodine.)

My son had MRSA. I had the best luck by washing him with dr. bronners peppermint soap with 5 drops of tea tree oil in my hand.  I also apply tea tree with a band aid when they come up to a head.  It does the trick every time and we seem to have them under control now.

Since your regular Dr is unsure of the dx, can you ask for a referral to a dermatologist?

i'd get a second or third opinion. we ended up at an herbalist/chinese medicine doc and she cured ds of his staph/mrsa. the googling just killed me and made things worse. his spot kept getting bigger/spreading no matter what we tried so i knew i didn't have a lot of time to mess with home remedies or what have you. why can the doc not to a culture? do you have a pic... honestly hang in there i was so worried about my ds i couldn't hardly eat or sleep

It sounds like molloscum, except for the painful part. My eldest had molloscum when she was 2 and the bumps were like small pimples with a little dimple. They did get larger right before healing, but I really don't remember her complaining of them being painful. I would dab tea tree oil on them and cover with silk tape. She hasn't had a recurrance since they healed.

I wish I had more info on MRSA. Most of the cases I see in the hospital are folks testing + in their nose. I haven't seen a lesion or boil, but I know bactrim ointment is a common treatment.
