how's this for a comment?

i know a woman. she went to school with my sister, and she used to be DH's neighbor back when we first started dating. so an acquaintance, not so much of a friend. today was our kids' christmas concert. i was sitting on the floor with DD and saw Woman coming down the hall. i said hi. she said, hi, how are you?

me: 8 months and counting.

her *funny look*

me *undo my big coat to reveal the basketball belly, stand up*

her: "oh my god. you're HUGE! you're like a HOUSE! i was never that big.. holy cow. YOU BEEP WHEN YOU BACK UP!"

i'm keeping a sense of humour about it. i didn't take it personally, i mean yeah i AM huge. but lord, who says that?!

Wow, that is astoundingly rude.

When encountering a comment like that, I always wish I could come up with some witty retort, but I never seem to be able to on the spot.

She's certainly someone I would cross the street to avoid encountering in the future. That is quite the lack of social graces, consideration, manners, & common sense!

People said things like that to me all the time when I was pregnant, it is like they have an excuse to say whatever they want to you?? It used to really make me mad. I never could think of a reply that didn't make me sound like a bitchy hormonal pregnant woman, so I just smiled at them really hard. I also got the "when are you due" comment so often I wanted to tattoo it on my forehead. I got SO SICK of answering that question over and over and over. One person I worked with asked me that every.single.day. It got to the point where I didn't even want to go out, because I knew I would get the same comments from people who thought they were being witty or original. Sigh. That was definitely my least favorite thing about being pregnant...besides the constipation and peeing every five minutes. :0

I get pretty big when PG too and people act shocked when I tell them I still have at least another month to go. It used to bother me (this is my 3rd baby) but I don't pay attention to such comments anymore...

i totally laughed it off :) i mean, that's just SO wrong.. but yeah i am huge, so i can expect a certain amount of that. the beeping while backing up i actually thought was funny. the rest? well, that's just rude, but whatever.. i'm huge but i think i'm more beautiful now than when i wasn't pregnant.

After the other day I think I would rather be huge. I have carried so small this entire pregnancy. Nobody thinks I'm pregnant. I actually had a lady ask me if I'm going through the change of life the other day because I said I was hot. I said no I'm 33 weeks pregnant. I'm also 29 years old !

I was at a school board meeting and the head of the board was talking to another member who was saying how much weight he had just lost. The head looked at me and said "I know who found every pound you lost." I will admit I am on the big side - really my belly only, but this is my 6th child. Sometimes people just don't think before they speak.

When I was about 6-7 months pregnant, we were at a conference. There were lots of people we didn't know and a lady I'd never met before came up and said I looked huge and like I'd be having the baby soon. I said, "Not really, I've got until the end of March." She said, "Well, I was bigger than you with all my kids."

Ummm, if you were bigger than me then why would you think I was about to have a baby? People are weird. When you're pregnant you have to learn to laugh at dumb things, huh?

That's really rude.  I hate those comments.  Even the people who say things about my belly being small come across as rude to me.  Consequently I have had one random person tell me I was huge and then another tell me I didn't look pregnant at all, in the same day.  I don't why people think it is OK to say anything they want to a pregnant woman regarding the size of her stomach.  So crazy.

Today at Church this man was like

"oh, you look like you're about to have that baby any day now". 

"No" I said "I still have awhile (I'm 35 weeks). 

"Wow, are you having twins?" he asked. 

"No, but thank you for telling me I look gigantic."

It kinda bothers me that people somehow assume I'd like to have a baby that will end up in the NICU because no one could possibly want to be as "huge" as me.  Plus, I also don't really like comments about my size. 

The librarian at the library once called out to me "wow, you're getting fat momma."  That one really pissed me off.

My husband said something about me taking it too personally, or I shouldn't let it bother me.  I explained to him, how would he feel if he had some condition where everyone commented about the size of his "unit".  I said imagine how it would feel if strangers kept telling you, "wow it must be cold in here".  It seems like only pregnant women understand :-/
