squatting

So I am not sure if this is the best place to post this but...

We have done part time ec with our dd 18mo.  She likes to pee/poo while standing, doesnt mind sitting on the potty but never pees.  We've been sort of encouraging her to use it though because she is done with diapers.

Anyhow, I've read that squatting is actually very healthy and preferable for elimination.  Also that squatting multiple times daily is very healthy for women's bodies in particular because it builds and moves the muscles we need to support healthy pregnancy and birth one day.

So I kind of wonder if we are actually doing her a disservice by encouraging her to go on the potty seat.  I actually just squat on our big toilet (& have for years) but the little potty seat is too small for her to do that now.  And it will be a while before she is big enough to squat over it.

Anyone else do something about this?  If so, what?  I was thinking of maybe just having a potty "spot" in the bathroom (tile floor, can be bleached) or else laying down big prefolds.  But is that really weird?  Plus we've been showing her us sitting on the potty.  I don't really want to pee on the floor, though in the past I have and would use a chamber pot.  Maybe a really mini bowl/chamberpot for her?

I feel like this would really be the last straw if anyone in my boyfriend's family found out.  I know they think we are a little odd, and they wouldn't say anything, but they'd just think I was nuts, ha ha.

if you were with her when she goes. you could just put her in the tub to squat to pee. it all is up to how she feels comfortable.

what potty do you use? the babybjorn little potty is the one i used for my ds and he was put into a squating position. http://www.amazon.com/BabyBj%C3%B6rn-Little-Potty-in-Red/dp/B003HY65Y6/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1292571152&sr=8-11

I think that is the one we have.... or maybe ours is the one that is just a little bit bigger.  Did you have to hold him over it?  She's 18mo and doesn't like to be held in potty position.  Hmm, if it is smaller than ours, maybe that is a good one to get.

no i didnt have to hold him over it. from floor to where the leg holes are it is 3.5 inches. so once he was sitting on it he was kinda squating. here is a link with some pics of babies on the bblp   http://www.drmomma.org/2010/09/diaper-free-photo-gallery.html
