Really need advice/ex requiring flu shot for visits - Page 2

That is ridiculous. First of all the flu shot does not insure that you won't get the flu. It only protects you from whatever current strain of flu they are using in the shots which typically means last years strain. The flu is constantly evolving and many strains exist at any given time. Many people get symptoms of the flu and are sick for a few days after getting the shot. The flu is one small illness out of several that your son could have in the winter. The courts always say that even if a child is sick he should still get the benefit of being cared for by both parents. As in illness does not interfere with visitation. So if your son gets the croup, bronchitis, a common cold, fever, stomach flu, etc..he isn't allowed to visit? What if your son has random illness all winter long. Your ex is being immature and selfish. His baby doesn't come first. And in all honesty how the heck is the baby's immune system going to get boosted if the child is kept away from all illness. It is a part of life and it can be beneficial. No one wants their baby ill but as long as the baby is nursing and people wash their hands frequently then the baby should be able to weather through anything. Do they intend to isolate this baby from the entire world to insure it never gets ill? They have other little children so if those kids get sick will they keep them away from the baby too? I wouldn't do it and I would document the situation for future issues.

Not true, they "guess" about the current year's strain based on past patterns, but they don't use last year's.

I would not do it. Sounds to me ike he knows thungs are going to be super busy with 3 little ones and found a way to not spend much of his time with your ds. I wouls suggest he meet with your son outside the home with the baby.

It's not just one shot for your DS, it's 2 -

The 2010-2011 flu season Seasonal influenza refers to many different strains of an influenza virus. Last year, we saw a new and different flu virus, called H1N1 (or swine flu), that created the first global outbreak of disease caused by a new flu virus in more than 40 years. Although the H1N1 pandemic is over, it is likely that the HIN1 virus will continue to circulate. That's why this year's flu shot will offer triple protection from H1N1 and two other strains of flu, so there is no need for a separate vaccine for H1N1 as there was last year.

* Children between the ages of 6 months and 9 years will need two doses of this year's influenza vaccine 3-4 weeks apart, only if they have never received a flu shot before.

* Children who only got one dose the first time they were vaccinated should get two doses the following year.

* All children 9 years of age and older only need one dose
