Re-using a carseat?

DS is 19 months now & will be 27 mos when our new LO gets here.  We bought a new infant seat for him, which he used for 5 months before moving to his (RFing) convertible.  Since then, the seat has been stored in our storage closet, which doesn't have a/c or heat (so it's been exposed to 100+ degree temps, as well as below freezing temps).  The seat was never in an accident, the straps were never wet (other than with drool eyesroll.gif), nothing has ever been stored on top of it, and of course, it's not even close to its expiration date.

Is there any reason not to re-use this seat?

I am re-using ours, but it was not in 100 plus temps or below freezing.  I don't see a reason not to.

if the seat had been in a car, it would have been exposed to the same or similar conditions - they're built to withstand that until they expire. So if it hasn't expired, I would use it.

As long as I knew the history, and knew that it had never been in any accidents, or cleaned with inappropriate cleaning agents-- sure I'd use it. The interior of a car gets hotter and colder than that.

We reused ours and it was fine.

I would re-use :)

I would be fine re-using the seat.  Like a PP stated, a lot of seats are exposed to those kind of temps when left in a car.  If the plastic doesn't look strained, I would go ahead and use it.
