We just found out that my 16 month old dd has pretty bad cavities and are trying a lot of the suggestions from this board to try to heal them before going with the dentist-recommended general anesthesia and crowns. One thing I really want to overhaul is diet, but I'm having trouble knowing exactly what to do. We're cutting sugar entirely, introducing more fish (dd is, so far, vegetarian and we don't want to do any other meats), and trying to give food only at designated meal and snack times. We're also starting a lot of new supplements, but I don't know how much and how often I'm supposed to give all of them.
This was her day yesterday. Critique, please?
Wake at 8am: one egg fried in organic butter, about 1 oz organic whole milk, and a couple of bites of oatmeal, 2 Hyland's Bioplasma tabs, followed by tooth brushing
11am: 2 string cheeses and some cucumber (we were out. Any suggestions for going-out snacks?) and water
12pm: about 1/2 cup organic whole milk yogurt and water, 1 fish oil capsule (1000 mg; poked a hole and squirted it in her mouth, gross, but she doesn't seem to mind)
3pm: bbq tvp sandwich, green beans with butter
5pm: grapes and cucumber slices with milk, squirt of Xylitol spray
7pm: fish and veggie curry with rice, Kid's One multivitamin crushed in a few tbs yogurt, another fish oil cap, and 2 more bioplasma tabs, floss and brush before bed
She does still nurse quite a bit day and night. We plan to try cutting down the night-nursing after Christmas vacation.Â
Am I giving the supplements appropriately? I read a lot about what to give, but not so much on how much. Any other supplements I should try? Any super foods for teeth healing? I'm pretty desperate to avoid the general anestesia, so there's not much I won't try! I would love to get her in for the healozone treatment, but it looks like the closest office is about 12 hours away and dh isn't going for it! What else can I do?
