Comparison pics, EFTA, CA, MR

I took some comparison pics of my tiny ds in some seats today....

3yrs 5months, 25lbs, 35", 12" torso.

(he insisted on 'seeing if they are good for sleeping')

MR:

5" to the top of the shell.  This was measured WITH the infant insert in (I didnt want to take it all apart to get it out), so he probably has even a little more room to grow than that.
He liked it overall, and said it was comfy, but then I moved the infant insert and he said the "but area is lumpy", I stuck my hand in there and it did feel lumpy, but not as if there was something weird in the seat that doesnt go there, I guess thats just how it is?
I had a hard time tightening the harness.

EFTA:

7" to the top of the shell.
I dont like the chest clip or the harness height adjusters on this one.  The harness straps also seem real close to his neck.  Levi had no opinion on its comfort, he just said it was "fine"

CA:

(creepy baby in the background is part of the display behind him)
7.5" to the top of the shell.
His favorite seat of all of them, though probably b/c its purple!  Again I dont like the chest clip, just b/c of the button style and the headrest adjuster seemed stuck on this seat (it was fine on the other 2 they had on display).  Also the hip area of the harness was on his tummy, not on his hip bone, which kinda seemed to dig in there when it was tight at the collar bone.  Not low on his hip like the other 2 seats and the RN.   He didnt seem to notice this though.  The headwings actually fit him vs being a little high still in the RN.  The little flap things under the harness at the shoulders are nice for him, but  I had to mess with them to get them in the right spot.

Interesting!  IRL (installed) the CA has way more height than the EFTA.

When I measured, I forgot that the CA headrest goes above the shell, so actually he would have even more room than the 7.5" that are with the headrest at the lowest point.  I'm not sure how much above the shell it goes though...

Can you make the crotch strap shorter on the CA? That is the car seat I wish I would have gotten DS 2yrs ago when I got the Truefit. While I love the truefit I wish the would make it retroactive and able to go up to 40 lbs. : (

As far as I know, you cant.  Its not a safety issue to have the straps above his hips in a 5pt harness (thats a seatbelt and booster issue only), but it seems like it would be uncomfortable.

I agree - I would LOVE a higher weight limit TF, we had a TF (one of the first ones!) ad I sold it for a radian b/c its easier to travel with.

Haha, you're DS has the EXACT same measurements as my 5yo.  Looks like the CA would be best for sleeping in.  We have a Radian as well (and a True Fit for back-up).  We get head flop in the Radian (RF) but otherwise its my fav seat.

ETA: *doh* I thought I knew your from c-s.org.  Didn't see the x-post link until now. LOL

LOL!  Hi!

I had a TF before the radian, and I really like both seats.  I just ordered a second RN for back-up now that we have another car in the family that has a back seat!  Levi gets the head flop thing in the RN and he did in the TF too (and the titan 5, and scenera...everything he has ridden in), must be his massive head.

Its nice having a ton of growing room in pretty much everything though.
