Help me like biking!

Thread Starter

I've been benched from running because of a near stress fracture.  Until I recover I'm doing low impact exercises (bike and elliptical mostly).  I consider myself to be in fairly decent shape, I ran a marathon 2 months ago, I was a competitive athlete through college, I'm one who enjoys a hard workout.  So, why can't I like the bike?  I need tips!  What am I missing?  30 minutes on a bike just about kills me!

Stress fractures suck! I had one in my foot and was totally out of commission for 10 weeks. It still hurts every now and then and it's been over 6 months since it happened.

I can't stand doing just the stationary bike in the gym, it's boring and I never feel like I'm getting a good work-out. But I absolutely lovespinning!! Spinning is totally different! Take a few spinning classes if you can (if you never have) to get a feel for how to change the adjustments on the bike to get an effective work out. There's no classes here for me to take, but the gym has a spinning bike so I just do my own thing going with whatever music is on my iPod.
