asthma??? in my 15mo

I posted this in Toddlers too, but didn't get any response. So I'm xposting here.

And I'm not sure if I'm looking for advice. or if i just need to rant. btdt stories would be good.

DS, 15months, was hospitalized this week overnight from what seemed to be an asthmatic attack. It started as bronchiolitis (well, first it was pneumonia, then changed). And they said the regimen is albuterol breathing treatments + steroids. Which shouldn't give a good result. But because he DID have a good result, it wasn't a bronchial thing... it was more like asthma.

So now he's home on a 5-day treatment of albuterol as needed + prednisolone once a day.

He's already a different baby back at home. Wheezy, but nothing scary like before he was admitted to the hospital.

I guess my question is... how many people started with this one occurrence and then it eventually turned into 2-3-4 times, and therefor "asthma" as diagnosis. Should I think that this COULD be a one-time thing?

I'm not scared. I'm just trying to be realistic. Friends with kids who have asthma say... if there's a chance you can save some of the albuterol for the future, just in case, DO It. As though this might come up again.

Ideas? btdt? (the internet searches are too scary on this... I'm done with that kind of "research" right now)

Thanks!

My DD has bronchiolitis at 17 months.  She had the albuterol treatment and steroids as well, but the doctor's office never mentioned anything about it working or not working and what that would mean for asthma - the doctor never mentioned asthma, so I can't imagine why should would recommend that treatment if it doesn't work for bronchiolitis.  ??

Anyway, that was 2 months ago and she's been fine ever since.  No asthma, and no reason to think she has it just because of that one incident.

excellent... that's what I want to hear. I didn't like that the Ped is putting "asthma" in his chart, even though EVERYONE else says "you can't really say Asthma at this age until it happens a few more times".
