Exercise Goals - Page 3

Yay Erica!

AFM - did another 30 min cardio on the treadmill last night.  I really wasn't in the mood to do it, but made myself and am really glad I did.  I felt much better afterwards!!

OK, I want to join the thread!

For the last year I have really been getting my body in shape. I did the 60 day Insanity program which really kicked my butt into gear, then I started alternating those workouts with running and did my first half marathon in August. Prior to getting PG in December I was only doing about 6 mile runs because that is about all I can tolerate on the treadmill! My workouts have gone pretty well since getting PG. I have to get up early and get it done while the kids are sleeping and before I start feeling like crap. This way I can also go to the gym to run before DH goes to work. It makes for early mornings, but I know I would not do it at night. I have been getting in 5-6 workouts a week. I alternate Insanity (it is becoming more and more modified everyday, but I still feel safe doing it. I go pretty easy these days and stopped doing the power jumps and a few other things a while ago and sub less intense moves. There about 4 of the easier workouts I alternate, keeps things fresh), Summer Sander's PG workout DVD, Preggie Bellies DVD (so fun, a friend gave it to me and I love it!), running. I have a prenatal yoga DVD, but have not put it in yet.

I feel really good during all my workouts, but today my run was HARD. In the beginning I was still doing 4 miles at 6.0, but that did not last long. I have gradually gone down to 5.6 and 3 miles. Today I could not even do that. My left hip felt like a knife was being driven into it. It finally felt good when I went down to 5.3. I had time constraints so barely got to 2.5 miles. I really want to be able to keep running, but today sucked! I am probably on the edge of needing new shoes, but I think this has more to do with my ligaments loosening up than shoes. I am fine with the slower pace if that is what it takes, I just hope I do not have to quite. If I do I will try the elliptical. Anyone use the elliptical? What do you usually do to feel like you get a good workout?

How are your joints feeling when you run? This hip thing is totally new and everything else feels great. I am never soar after a workout so I don't feel like I am pushing anything too hard.

My last PG I was lazy, never worked out once. My first I was pretty fit prior to being PG and my job was very physical. I went to the gym in the beginning, gradually I just relied on my field work on the job and walking for exercise. This exercising during PG thing is pretty much new territory for me.

I know what you mean. I have never really been one to worry about weight gain in PG or even really care about my body image, but I am having a tougher time this go around. I have worked so hard the last year trying to get back in shape and in good health! I really did not loose much weight, maybe went down half a pant size, but I went from not being able to run at all, to doing a half marathon and it took a hell of a lot of work. I just dread the thought of having to start all over again. I know it is for a good cause and I love my little belly that is starting to show, I just really want to maintain some strength and endurance this time so I do not have to start all over.

Ahhh there is a workout thread!  I must have missed it before, so glad to see it!

I'm just now starting to get back to working out.  First trimester hits me hard and I just baby myself until I'm ready.  So now I'm doing yoga and Erin O'Brien's prenatal fitness.  That's what I did last pregnancy starting at 14 weeks and I had a great birth and stayed in great shape!

Sarah, that hip pain sounds miserable!  Have you thought about going to a chiro?

Happy to see so many like minded ladies! smile.gif  I need some motivation to get going.  It's hard to play the "But I'm pregnant and lazy!" card when everyone's in the same boat!

I am seeing the chiro once a month, two weeks until i am supposed to see her again. I will see if I can hold out. I am hoping if I just start out slower from now on it will be OK...

Ok so, yeah.  Tonights workout was a bit of a bust!  I tried running and got about a half mile at 5.8 mph, but soon started getting RLPs and my bladder felt like it was going to fall out.  So, I walked until 1.5 miles going at a pretty steady clip, not leisurely, but it's a far cry from my 10 min mile.  I feel frumpy.

But at least I did it, right?

My BFF said she was able to run until about 12 weeks when she just couldn't anymore, but I thought I'd be in this for the long haul.  Maybe I just need to keep at it?  Idk.  What do you guys think?  Anyone still running?

How is everyone doing?

I am trying really hard to except the fact that I am getting slow and it is OK! I have had to cut out a couple of my harder workouts because it was getting to a point where I was modifying so much of it it was not even the same workout anymore!

I am stilling running, my goal is to get to 3.1 miles then walk until I hit 40 minutes total. I am running at a pace of about 5.2 now, I would love to go faster, but this is the only way my left hip does not hurt. My run yesterday i got to 3.1 in 35 minutes with a couple walking breaks. I hate being so slow, but it is ok, and now that my belly is showing a little I feel a little more justified to slack off at the gym with the the serious fit folks!

Are you all doing abdominal work? I know it is very debatable if it is OK or not. One of my prenatal DVDs has a short ab workout for the second tri, it is modified with pillows so you are not flat. I do not really have any good pillows to use though, up till now I still feel very comfortable on my back, but I know that will change very soon.

Still trying to run a few times a week but it's really turning into walking.  I'm upset about it too, but I'm just really trying hard to see that I'm still active and that it's really for cardiovascular fitness, not for the same goals I once had (like setting times, losing weight, or just overall fitness).  I'm running at a 5.7 or so, but only for a .25 mile interval.  Then I walk for half a mile, jog again at 5.7 or so.  I cannot, CANNOT, do 6.0 anymore.  And I worked so hard to get there!!  UGH!

But it's ok.  After our bodies heal, after we have our babies, we will train again and be back better than ever!

I'm not doing any abdominal work at all, but I never did really so I don't feel like I'm missing much.

Yes, I worked very hard to get up to 6.0 and beyond, but there is no way I can get even close now. My MW made me feel better by telling me the endurance is way more important now than the speed. It helps to think of it that way, for me.

It does help to think of it that way - I think that's kind of what I mean when I say cardiovascular fitness is more important than other things.  Maybe if I crank the speed down, I'll be able to do more at a time.  Thanks, mama!

Got on the treadmill last night.  Walked at for 40 minutes!!  Mostly at 3.8 or 4.0 -- good arm pumping, speed walking workout!  I felt GREAT afterwards.  Just gotta make it a habit and keep it up!

Tuesdays and Thursdays I'm doing spinnervals. It's 30 minutes of spin on the bike then 30 minutes of strength training with weights ect. Then after that I'm doing yoga. It feels so good! I look funny doing the yoga with my belly sticking out though. lol. I'll probably do it until I can't anymore... I'm going to try to do it until my due date if I can.

http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Pregnancy-Workout-vol-Ancient/dp/B003S21TIY

I just got this yesterday and tried it today.

Started at beginner and couldn't make it through the warm up - far too much repetition on one area. Great for the body, bad for my stamina ;) But I sat and drank water and watched and then there came the "routine" at the end - which I could totally do! Yay!

I like it. It has features, a section where they explain the movies, options for difficulty. Yay. Going to try to do it every day!

Last week I got the Perfect Pregnancy Workout Vol. 1 - toning.  I thought it was great!  I should do it today.  There are options to do a beginner level or advanced.

They advertised Volume 3 - belly dance and I am tempted to get it.  I have no belly dance experience, so it sounds like it might be good...

I guess saying you will do it every day is a testament.

Oooh I have a different Perfect Pregnancy Workout DVD and they have a little ad for that bellydance one on it!  It looked good, I might have to get it.  My gym membership got too expensive (and I stopped going to Spinning classes which was the main thing I did there anyway) so I cancelled it and got some DVDs.  So far I've only done a yoga one.  It was good, though!  I also walk in the park often, and walk to work.

I'm not much of a runner/jogger but if I am going to do 30 minutes on a treadmill, I prefer intervals.  I read they are really good for you.  I think 5.7 for a .25 of a mile is great when you are over 4 months pregnant. smile.gif

I like it, yeah :) And I have to do something. Belly dance works for me because it's fun and makes me feel attractive instead of out of shape and uncoordinated ;)

It doesn't have the best instructions on how to do movements if you're new to them, though. You'll probably be fine, but Amira's prenatal has better instructions, I think. It's just that they're in the one track so you can't ever turn them off that makes me crazy! ;)

I got the Perfect Pregnancy Bellydance workout a couple of days ago, to round out my choices a bit.  I've been doing Summer Sanders' prenatal workout, a couple of prenatal yoga DVDs, sometimes Prenatal Pilates, and, of course, walking.  The bellydance warm-up is a bit repetitive, but I do like the routine, overall, and find the movements both challenging and soothing.  Also, as Becky says, it's not going to leave you slumped in despair at the loss of athletic prowess!  :)  (Unless you're very inflexible, I guess.)

Over the spring and summer, I'd been running, and managed a decent time in my first race.  This was actually somewhat miraculous, with my health history.  :)  But in the autumn, I kept getting respiratory infections, and couldn't breathe well enough to run for more than a couple of minutes.  So I wasn't running when the twins were conceived; and then exhaustion hit me so hard, I hadn't started again before finding they were twins.  It sounds like gentleness to oneself may just be a good idea with twins - not not exercising, but being willing to go with less intensity.  At any rate, I don't feel up to much more.  So I have reverted to just the walks, yoga, strength training, and bellydance - and am looking forward to beginning running, again, as soon as I'm able, after they're born.

I am trying to walk for 30 minutes each day.  It is still cold a lot here, and I hate walking on the treadmill.  So, I often skip a day.  I am trying to stretch everyday.

Power walked for 25 min last night.  I was beat.  First time I "worked out" all week!  Goodness, I need to get on the ball with working out!!
