How to get greasy stains out of clothes?

Any tips will be appreciated!

I keep a bottle of Dawn diswashing liquid (normal dish soap) in the laundry room and pre-treat greasy stains on clothing, then toss into laundry.

It works pretty darn good, have even had success with removing greasy stains that have gone thru the dryer and are more "set".

It hasn't been fail proof, but it has saved numerous clothing items over the past 2 years that I have been doing so.

I also use dishwashing liquid on grease stains. It works best if you can treat the stain before it's been washed, and especially before it's been dried in the dryer. But I've even had luck getting older grease stains out-- I apply the dish liquid, and rub really hard with a small nail brush, on both sides of the fabric, then rinse in cold water. Then hang it to dry, and see if the stain is gone-- sometimes you have to do it a few times before you really get it out.

I pre-treat grease stains w Dr Bronners and then directly into the wash they go (not the hamper).

I treat them with dishwashing liquid or shampoo, then throw them in the regular laundry and wash on warm.

I rub dishsoap into the stain with an old toothbrush (for more delicate items skip the toothbrush).

This works for fresh and old grease stains.  I saturate them with chalk or talcum powder or starch.  Baking soda doesn't really work, and chalk works the best. For a really bad grease stain, I might have to do it a few times, wash, then do a few times more, but for mild ones, like cooking, usually rubbing it with chalk will do the trick.

Thanks for all the ideas! I'd tried Dawn before, but never with a toothbrush. Since that's what I had on hand, I tried it and it really helped!

Where would I get chalk for this?

Any kind of chalk, like the kind they sell in stationary supplies. Chalkboard chalk, sidewalk chalk.   I like chalk that is similar in color to the garment, or white for light colored garments.
