Loose baby teeth and thumb sucking

I just noticed that my child's bottom two teeth are loose. he's almost 5.5- it seems young to me-maybe I am seeing things.  He sucks to fall asleep STILL.....his bottom teeth have great spacing and are really not affected by it-his top teeth are more so affected by it and I know he'll need braces. Also......he is the oldest in his class and will be the first of anyone he knows to loose a tooth. He is very scared, sad and nervous about this and doesn't think the tooth fairy sounds fun. Also, I truly thinks he does still need to suck to fall asleep(no harsh comments please!). We had a dentist appt scheduled 2months ago that I had to cancel for sickness so he is due for an appt. He is a very very sensitive little guy.......

I'm not sure if there is a question in there but I do think he is at a normal age to loose his first tooth.

Don't worry about the age, my DD lost her 2 bottom teeth right after she turned 5, but my niece lost her 1st tooth after she turned 7! There's a wide range of normal ages for losing teeth.

Does he suck his thumb or a pacifier and is it only at night to fall asleep?  I do think it really affects tooth spacing if it is too much time of sucking every day.  My niece finally stopped sucking her thumb for most of the day and she does need braces now because of it (the dentist said).

Try to get him to his appt and the dentist can talk to him.  My DD has the utmost respect for the dentist, lol, she listens to everything he says.

My daughter lost her first tooth on Christmas Eve while she was in kindergarten.  She was so excited because the teacher had a "who lost a tooth" chart in the classroom, and dd was going to be the first one!!!!

But, after school break, she walked in with her fantastic news, only to find out three other kids had also lost their tooth over Christmas break.

She was bummed.  LOL

5 -5 1/2 is a very normal age to loose teeth. About 1/2 - 2/3 of the kids in dd's K class had lost some teeth by the end of K. Dd lost hers right about 5 1/2, and her top front teeth right about 6. She's lost a lot of teeth in the last 6 months (I think she's up to #7). It seems a little much to me, but the dentist isn't worried. And she isn't a thumb sucker, pacifier sucker or anything else. It was just the time.

The comforting thing is that they look really cute when they lose their top teeth!
