Is there a toy / or small piano that sounds good?

Can anyone reccomend a piano for a baby/toddler ( and/or a little older kid) that sounds good and not tinny stirnged? We just got the my first piano from schoenhut- and while the model in the store sounded okay to me, the one we got from online just arrived today and the sound was so bell like that it hurt my and dh's ears! Are there any little toy pianos that sound closer to a real piano or at least have a pleasant sound?

(Didn't know where to post this btw)

I really don't think there is such a thing out there but keep in mind that my ears are very well tuned to good p

iano sounds and bad.  I grew up at the feet of a finely tuned grand piano that my Father played for hours on end every day.  I don't know anything really about toy pianos except I've never heard a good sounding one.  It's almost certain though that being new and being shipped the piano is out of tune which is making it's 'tinginess'  extra bad.

that's good to know

maybe I will just introduce him to real piano sounds rather than the toy one, then.

What about a small, high quality keyboard?

this is exactly what i was going to suggest.  Skip the toy instruments, in general.

my 19 month old is getting a 37 key electric keyboard for christmas. we don't have enough room for a full-sized keyboard or a piano. I found it for $20 at ToysRUs

nod.gif This is what we did. DD started playing on a keyboard. She is now 8 and playing a real piano.

We have the Melissa and Doug little piano (it's yellow, black, and red, I think, not sure how else to describe it). It's not perfect, but I like it a lot better than an electric keyboard.

I vote get a real piano.  It can be an attractive piece of furniture, as well.
