DS is almost 1, and I'm pregnant

I'm about 2 months pregnant and my ds will be 1 next month.  He is still pretty much ebf, takes very little solids and only drinks some water.  I'm worried about when my supply drops that he's going to be hungry.  He shows almost no interest in solids and I find I'm blaming myself because we didn't do purees at 6 months like we did with our first.  And now that he won't eat "food" he's going to be miserable when my supply goes down. So far, no supply issues but I know that it'll happen eventually. 

 

Anyone else go through this?  If you did, did your baby eat when your supply dropped?   We've started giving him more opportunities to eat hoping he'll like it, but no luck.

I'm also 8 weeks pregnant and I have a daughter that's almost 15 months old. She has just started eating solids very recently. At 10 months she would sometimes eat a few cheerios or crackers, but that wasn't everyday. I thought she would never start eating. I bought a highchair the day before her first birthday and started putting her in it and offering her food several times a day. At first she would just play with the food or fall asleep, but after a few weeks she started really eating. Now she will crawl over to the highchair and reach up to let me know what she wants to eat. He will start eating more when he's ready, don't worry!

DD was eating a good amount of solids before my supply decreased, but when it did she increased how much she was eating by a lot. it may be that he'll start taking more solids as he needs them more for nutrition. just keep offering (and if you aren't already offering several times a day, offer multiple times a day)

Yeah, we've been offering at every meal, plus when ever my dd has a snack we usually give him something, too.  And soon we can start giving him some cows milk.  I know it's not a replacement for breastmilk or food, but at least it has some good stuff.

1st off, your supply might not drop - it does most of the time but not always..

 

2nd.. in my experience when my supply drops my kids ate more.. i got pregnant when my DD was 10 months old and she started taking a LOT more solids i miscarried that pregnancy when she was 12 mo & she went back to mostly breastfeeding, i didnt even notice the supply drop until it was over.. my dd wanted to nurse twice as much but she wasnt fussy etc & ate when she was hungry.. .

I'm in a similar situation - 14 weeks preg with a DD who is almost 14 months. She def eats more since my supply tanked about 3 weeks ago. I'm giving her a little raw cows milk but not because I think she needs it nutritionally. I give it occasionally as part of a snack to my boys and she was interested so I gave her some...She has been *much* more interested in water and I find I have to remember to keep a water bottle always handy for her now.

Just to encourage you, I didn't really lose my supply until my 3rd trimester when I had a BFing babe as well.  If I were you, I would just start offer foods at every meal.  Maybe so some purees since he hasn't had much.  Don't beat yourself up, figure out what he'll eat so you're prepared.  Surely there is some food that he'll enjoy, he just has to adjust to it.  My younger DD didn't have much interest in food till she was 9 months or so, and I found that she loved fruit, would eat any fruit, when I had been trying cereals and she hated those.  Apple sauce is considered a grown up food, so you could start there.

goats milk is closer to breast milk nutritionally. IDK how you feel about that but just wanted to tell you. A lot of kids have issues with cow's milk and it can have a mucous-y effect on them. Any asthma or anything can be worsened and some say even caused by it. Also the stomach and digestive issues a lot of people experience....

 

If you could get raw goat's milk from a local farm or something that would be ideal b/c it is a lot like human milk.
