Dental care at 10 months?

What should I be doing for dental care?

I do nothing now.  My boy has 2 1/2 teeth.

My ped said I can wipe the teeth w/ a washcloth, but that's about all he said.

My dentist said to brush or wipe with a wash cloth morning and night.  He said to do all the gums so baby will get used to it.  He advised no toothpaste before 3 years of age.

Also he said to avoid giving a sippy of juice (even diluted with water) for baby to have with him, but instead to give no more than 1-2 oz of juice once a day with a meal if I felt I had to give it at all. That protects the teeth from prolonged exposure to acidity.

And he said to keep nursing love.gif

At that age, we wiped the gums and teeth with a clean wet baby washcloth every night and morning, and avoided sweets, including too much juice. I never did much more than that in the first year. Once you have a few more teeth, you can start getting baby used to the toothbrush-- get a small one with very soft bristles. Toothpaste isn't necessary, you can just use water, but sometimes it helps baby enjoy the process more-- use a non-flouride one formulated for small children. We like the Tom's of Maine liquid toothpaste for toddlers.
