how late can you do GBS testing?

I am in the middle of switching providers. I missed my 36 wk appt with my old provider, my 37 week is supposed to be tomorrow, but I just got all my paper work to go to the new place on Monday. The only problem is that Sunday night into Monday we may be having a 6 inch to 12 inch snowstorm Sunday into Monday, which will probably make my appointment on monday canceled or rescheduled.  Technically I will be 38 weeks on Monday - (right - do I have the math right? I am due Jan 10th) My old office was seeing me at 4 days later, because they were only open on Fridays.

I am not worried about early labor, but I don't want to get antibiotics if I don't need them. Is there a limit to how late I can get testing done? I did not have GBS with my first and I have been on probiotics since I was 9 weeks, my doula thinks I should be fine, but I doubt that my hospital (even though they are midwives) would be okay with that.

I don't think there's such a thing as too late with GBS testing - as long as the results come in before you have the baby. In fact, since GBS can be there one week and not there the next week, you could potentially argue that later testing is more accurate. ;)

Iirc, the test can take up to 24 hrs to do at some labs? if you are hosp birthing, you just want to have it done before you show up in labor bc they won't test you, just treat you as presumptive pos. you should be fine unless you think it its likely you'll go into labor before your appt.

I was tested at 37w and went into labour the next day. Because my results hadn't come back yet, they treated me as pos. They came back half way through the labour and took me off the abx.

I HATE taking abx, it always messes with me.

I never in a bazillion years thought I would go early, My mom had 2 of 3 past 42w. So I was sure I would be late too. But I would have the test done as soon as they will allow it! That way you have it.

are the MWs OK with your VBAC? I know a lot of times that can put you in the "high risk" category.

yes, they work at a high risk hospital, and being 40 and a vbac, and I not high risk, they base it on health. They do vba2c a lot. I won't go early, I was induced after 40 weeks with my first, and I doubt I will go early this time. If I do it will be very close to my due date.
