Just want you to verify that this sounds like a food allergy...or not

My 6 month old just started solids.  Yesterday, I gave her applesauce (not the first time) and she has broken out in a head to toe rash.  The rash spots are fairly large, sometimes raised, but not broken.  She's not in a terrible mood but it looks awful.  Some of the older spots are looking purple--I thought I read someone say that happens when the spots are fading--but she's still getting more spots.  (I'm thinking hives) Is that normal 24 hours later?

Thinking back, she had a red area below her bellybutton a few days ago which I thought was just diaper rubbing.  And then spots between her legs, which I thought maybe was rubbing from the exersaucer we just tried out.  So, I guess the rash has been coming for about a week.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Sorry, no pic for you.  Did look at some online...she not an extreme case of hives like some. It almost looks like the hand/foot disease without the spots on the palms or bottom of feet or inside the mouth.LOL

I've got DH off to pick up some benadryl to try.  Spoke to the pharmacist and he'll figure out the dosage by her weight.  (I guess that's the only thing to try?)

I just thought it was strange that spots would still be appearing...creeping towards her face/ears...

And would a food allergry rash start off small and localised (not on face) and then get extreme the next time the food is introduced?

Oh well, thanks for reading...

Reactions can be very unpredictable, so I'd assume your little one is allergic and avoid that food. Benadryl should help if it's a reaction (it does sound like one to me).

Is she breathing okay? Any rash around her mouth/throat?

My 4yo has a confirmed apple allergy. When she has apples, her eczema flairs and her skin gets red/itchy/rough in one or two areas (sometimes behind her knees, sometimes inner elbow, sometimes her lower back)

I would guess virus before allergy, in this case.
