Reducing the pain of childhood vaccination: an evidence-based clinical practice guideline

Thanks so much for this post.  Dd is due now for a booster, and it's great to have research-based recommendations for pain relief.  I'll be giving a copy to our peds office.

I will print this out and take it to the next appointment. DS had his first shots ever today, and the nurses were all annoyed by us holding him on the lap and refusing to put him down... If you ever ask something that's out of the ordinary, nurses usually get upset and mad. But the doctor and nruse manager at our place are just awesome and DH does what we want no matter how much the nurses whine about it... But they really, really need to read this.

I hold my children during all their vaccines and I notice a huge difference in how they react. There have been times when my child did not even cry because I was distracting him and holding him close. There is one nurse in the practice that refuses to give a shot while I am holding my child, but I just ask for a different nurse:) You have to be an advocate for your child, they only have you to do so!
