Velamentous insertion- Anyone else have one?

As the midwife was showing me the placenta she said oh it has a Velamentous insertion of the cord.  She showed me what that meant and I didn't realize how bad things could have turned out until I researched it.  Now I'm wondering if it was a contributing factor for my postpartum hemorrhaging.  

It was within 10 minutes of birth and I heard her say oh here comes the placenta.  I didn't have to push or anything?  She was already starting to work on numbing up my 2nd degree tear prior to stitching.  Then all of a sudden they are starting an IV injecting pitocin and telling me they needed to shove 3 tablets of cytotec up my rectum.

I'm not a member of this due date club (just here collecting name ideas for my sister), but I had a velamentous insertion with my second son. I, also, didn't know anything about it until after he was born and the midwife showed it to us. She didn't explain much, but I looked it up later and realized how poorly it could have turned out.

I hemorrhaged, as well, and had to have a shot and an IV of something. However I think that my bleeding was because they extracted the placenta in 6 minutes ("gentle traction"she called it). Hospital policy said that they had to have it out in under 10 minutes and so they did. I also bled with my first son, who's placenta was also pulled on. With my next two children, the placentas came out on their own, in 25 minutes and 20 minutes respectively, and I didn't hemorrhage at all. So I don't think it had to do with the velamentous insertion.

My son did have a tongue tie, though, and I've wondered it that was connected to the cord insertion. His was severe enough to interfere with breastfeeding and so we had it clipped. My youngest child also has a tongue tie (but no velamentous insertion) which doesn't affect nursing at all. So maybe that isn't related, I don't know.
