i am looking for something waterproof that will allow her to use her hands.  we have a pair thats waterproof but i can't get her thumb in the right spot.  she gets mad she can't hold a little shovel in the snow.  the only pair i could find that would allow her to use her hands was made out of fleece which got too wet and cold.  any ideas?

I've got a pair that go up to ds' elbows but they have zips that go all the way down to his knuckles. They're great 'cause I can unzip them, get his thumb all lined up & then zip them up & they stay put under his jacket. I'm pretty sure I got mine at wal-mart but i've also seen them at outdoors stores.

Brand? Link? Both dd and I HATE her warmest winter mittens because it's impossible to get her thumb in the thumb. She's stuck wearing stretch gloves that stick to the snow and only really protect from the mildest wind.

We just got DD the Gordini mitts from Mountain Equipment Co-op here in Canada. They are awesome. Not too stiff so she can still use her hands, fit well under her jacket and are waterproof. They also stay on really well.

For my 2 year old, I recently bought the Xtra Small SnowStoppers Stay-on Fleece Mittens (in Purple).

They work great - they got almost up to her elbow, no zipper and there is no thumb, so it's especially to put on.  She seems to perfectly able to play well in the snow without a thumb, and it keeps her hands very warm.  She's also able to pull them (well, one of them) on herself, and take them off herself, which at her age makes her feel accomplished.  They stay on securely and have a water-proof layer.
