Sacroiliac and pubis symphis paIn...

Hello, I am 27.5weeks pg with identical twin boys. I am I'm terrible pain. My sacroiliac joint is killing me and making it so hard to take care of mt 9 month old son as well as chores around the house. Now I have the symphis pubis pain too oh and nasty carpel tunnel. I am struggling daily to remain positive.
I hate to admit but I am not even all that happy to be having twins, or another baby so soon after my son. I struggle to figure out how I will make it through every day, sometimes every hour.
I am also wondering how I can labour given the pain I am in. I did natural childbirth with my first and it's very important to me to do the same if at all possible. All this pain is making me depressed and irritable. Any tips to make it through would be appreciated. I feel so alone.

Oh you poor thing! You are not alone, although we all feel it sometimes.

First, get a support belt. I had the prenatal cradle, which goes over your shoulders and takes the weight off your back. That relieves the pelvic pain you're feeling. Sometimes I literally could not walk or move my legs, and that belt really helped. If you're in a local twin club, they may have one if they have a loaner library program. Check there first but you can buy it online, well worth the money. (And if you're not in a twin club, check into it, it may help you feel less alone.)

Second, many people recommended that I go to the chiropractor, but what helped me the most was going to physical therapy. Your pelvis is destabilizing from all the hormones loosening the ligaments. You can't tighten them up, but you can strengthen the other muscles around there, which helps stabilize your pelvis. I learned mostly core muscle exercises, so that is the place to start. Get out your birthing/exercise ball and roll around on it. If you want some specifics, PM me and I can tell you a few easy exercises Iearned.

Oh, I could have written this post myself a few weeks back.  I'm so relieved that at least the sacroiliac pain resolved itself in my case.  That was the one that had me in tears and barely moving!  I wrapped my support belt very low around my hips and bottom, and that would help a little when I had to go somewhere.  What helped most was my husband doing hip squeezes while I leaned over a ball.  I think what contributed to my pain was both twins trying to lay on my left side, just too much pressure.  Now that they are sharing space better, we're all much happier.

The SPD I've had to deal with through several pregnancies, so I've gotten pretty good at keeping my knees together, sitting to put on pants, socks, shoes.  We have a full size van, so it's hard to get in without doing it one foot at a time, but I step onto the step, sit on the seat and try to swing my knees in together.

Carpal tunnel is really bad this time around, too.  I don't have any tips for that one.  Anyone?

Oh you poor thing! I'm soooo with you on the SPD, SI joint problems! As with one of the pp's, I've found great relief in physical therapy. I think a good PT who specializes in women's health is going to be better than a chiro most of the time. Added bonus is that most insurance plans will cover that whereas they may not cover chiro. The SI belt or support can help a lot too, but only if your SI joint is lined up. If its not, it can actually make it worse. That's where the PT comes in, he/she can get you all lined up and then you can use the belt, wow, relief!

I'm at almost 27 weeks with triplets and its funny, but over the last few weeks the SI problems have gotten better. Its almost like the babies are stabilizing my pelvis from the inside. The more pressure they put on the pelvis, the less room there is for the joints to move! The trade off is that the SPD is worse, ugh, you just can't win at this point. :)

I've been having wrist problems too and hadn't thought much of it, but now that you mention carpal tunnel, I bet that's what it is. I hope someone has some ideas on that.

As far as feeling overwhelmed and not ready, a multiples group could be a wonderful thing for you, is there one inyour area?

First, ((hugs))

I have horrible SPD pain and had it with DD as well.  There were days I couldn't get out of bed!  I just wanted to let you know, though, that it did not make labor harder at all.  I don't remember ever thinking about it during or labor or having pain there.  Either the contractions overshadow it or something?  I've been told SPD, which is excessive stretching of the ligaments of the pelvis, and make labor easier.  Can't verify that scientifically but...

I second the prenatal cradle.

Thanks ladies. I had been going to physical therapy. It was not doing anytHing. I start with a new person next week so we will see if they are better. I woke up this morning with a sever bout of the stomach flu. Whenever I get sick it seems like the day before I get really depressed, and it explains the insane pain. Will look into twin group. smile.gif

I also had all sorts of pains when I was about as pregnant as you are and it all cleared up!  Hang in there and hopefully the same will happen.

You could look for a Bowen practitioner. It's a light touch therapy that can have really deep results. I did not know about it during my pregnancy but it helped almost two years after and I'm now training to be a practitioner because I found it helpful.

During my preg I wore a support belt, but honestly, I was just in pain a lot til I gave birth greensad.gif

You could try homeopathic tissue salts too mama.
