Question for homeschoolers in VA about Notice Of Intent(NOI)?

In VA by filing your NOI you're pretty much stating you comply with the immunization requirements to get your child into ps, you may file for religious or medical exemption though. We are a non-vax'ing, non-religious(we go to UU church as dh is atheist and I'm buddhist), and we don't have any valid medical reasons not to vax.... So, what should we do? I'm going to need to start sending out all the official stuff for dd( 6 in Mar.) this coming Aug.

for our district, there was only a form for NOI.  VERY basic.  also asked to very generally describe a plan of what we will do and some resources we'll use.  so, i attached a letter with the form.  nothing regarding vax was mentioned.

when i got my letter acknowledging receipt of my plans as well as "permission" to homeschool this year, there was some statement regarding immunization requirements and basically said "if you ever send this child to PS, you'll need to provide proof of vax or an exemption".

You only need to supply the NOI.

I think this may answer your question (reprinted with permission from HEAV's Virginia Homeschool Blog).

The law requires all children to be immunized, including children who are homeschooled under the home-instruction statute, the certified-tutor statute, or the religious-exemption statute. However, the law does not require parents to submit immunization records unless the superintendent specifically requests them.

Homeschooling parents should keep immunization records on file at home. Immunization is not a requirement for homeschooling and is not linked to the Notice of Intent.

There are exemptions to immunizations based on (i) a parent’s or guardian’s religious beliefs or practices, or (ii) a written certification from a licensed physician stating that one or more of the required immunizations may be harmful to the child’s health. The penalty for not immunizing a child is that he is prohibited from attending public school.

View more information about the types of immunizations that are required, who can administer them, record keeping, etc., on HEAV's Explanation of Immunization Laws page, taken from The Virginia Homeschool Manual.
