When is it time to have a baby?... Yes, I'm a newlywed

I'm obsessed with making a responsible decision.  I'm generally emotional so I want to get pregnant when it's the right time financially, emotionally and in our relationship.  I got married in August and we are just beginning to pay down our debt, but what I'm most worried about is knowing when it's the right time to let go of the independent, selfish lifestyle that I enjoy now... I like going home to silence and watching a movie that I like, eating odd combinations of food for dinner and going shopping on a whim... but I know I'd be a great mom and I look forward to sharing that with my husband (who has a 10 yo... that's its own issue)... Also, I'm not settled in my career and I'm not sure what I want to do professionally.  So, whens the right time???

There is no right or wrong answer. In many ways, I didn't come to fully realize myself, career and otherwise, until years after having my first child. Remember, life hardly ever goes according to plan!  I've always been in the "if it happens, it happens" camp (within reason)!

If you are young, I would say wait! You are right that being a parent pretty much removes those self times. You want to watch a flick but baby needs a diaper, or is crying and spitting up, or something along those lines.

In my book the right time is when you are emotionally ready to sacrifice for a child. Once that is there, everything else can be made to work.
