2011 in 2011 - Page 7
Making a fairly good start here. Today I threw out:
2 bags of misc cardboard and grotty outdoor items (probably 20 items)
3 stupid plastic happy meal toys lol
2 pr undies of hubbys that were just absurd
1 bag of clothes that were just unusable (stained, holes etc... 10 items)
so about 35items today
In the garage, waiting for lifeline to pick up:
1 washing machine (still works well, I just can't be bothered selling it lol)
1 dining room table & 6chairs that I loathe
2 bags of stuffed & other toys (must be 30 in there!)
1 HUGE bag of clothing that is still in good shape (no exaggeration, there were 40 peices.. half from my wardrobe, half the kids)
Then that pick up is done, it will free up a LOT of space in the garage that's for sure!
I'm going to go ahead and count the 75 items I decluttered last week just to get myself started. Then I'll add more as I go... so... vintage fabric, felted sweaters, sewing patterns (I don't yet sew), outgrown kids' clothes, too-small or too-big adult clothes... all donated. Expired medicines, empty boxes, expired makeup, etc., from the bathroom cupboard... tossed and/or recycled. Total =
Oh, wait! I just remembered that I donated a whole bag of kitchen stuff, including wine bottle openers, a cake carrier, a cooling rack, a hot pot, and other items... so, let's say, another 10.
Can't wait to get started today!
yet another map
2 plastic bins
3 Kinder egg toys
2 broken toys
tube of cream that does nothing for my dermatitis
3 old/expired food items from fridge
an assortment of stamps (I'll count them as one item)
a bunch of fabric scraps (didn't count them so I'll consider them as one item)
2 "it's a girl" balloons from DD's birth (she's 19 months old)
24 random toys
4 kids books
4 old magazines
1 set of inspirational magnets (they have lovely religious sentiments on them and would be inspirational, but they all refer to God as "he" and "him," which doesn't inspire me, it just irritates me).
And one MORE empty basket available to store DD's new Christmas gifts!

Count me in!
DH and the kids and I welcomed the New Year in my totally going on a decluttering spree in our 3rd floor/attic areas. I wish I would've kept track of each item but that would be a lot of work! I'm guessing we got rid of over 100 items. I'm going to list a few just to keep myself on track as I come back...
1. exercise bike.2. breast pump. 3.-10 old clothes. 10-30, old greeting cards and wedding cards. 40-100 old school papers, files, projects. 100-300, ditto for DH. 300-320 art supplies, 321. old picture, 322-340, old pottery, ceramic stuff,340-350- toys,350-400, material scraps. 400-450, decorations, more clothes, more papers. I guess I'll stop here. so 2011-450=1561 to go!
Decluttering books today - ran them through bookscouter to see if they were buying any and was surprised!
Decluttered a total of 13 books and will get almost $60 back from them! I've got another big stack to take to Half Price Books when I go that way later this week - I'll count those when I take them.
I'm in! I did the 210 and 2010. I'll be back later to post! I just wanted to subscribe. As far as how much to count, I've counted a huge box of papers as 1 box and 1 pile of papers, even if it took me most of the day to sort through it, and I think I was cheating myself there. I did start counting things like pictures and cards individually, because it is so hard for me to get rid of those things. I'm starting the year off sorting through old school papers, poems, etc. of my sisters' I've been hanging on to for years. I think they are worthy of being counted individually because they're sentimental to me. A pile of junk mail, though, would just be counted as 1 pile of junk mail. I think it's a very personal choice how we count things.
Here's to 2011 in 2011!!!!
I am going to try to keep up with posting this year.
I usually give away several garbage bags worth of items each month, but I am hoping that by keeping track I wll start to see what my patterns are. Curretnly have several bags waiting for the next pickup service, but am not counting those since I put the stuff in them in 2010. I am fairly decluttered - certainly by mainstream standards, but would like to be more simple/minimalist than I am now.
mostly clothes both mine and the outgrown kids stuff plus some worn out shoes/slippers
TO the trash
1. Insurance card at least 8 years old from before I had children - stuffed in a drawer
2. disposable contact lenses - also from Before Children. (can't wear them anymore).
3, 4, 5 - various cleaners, lense rewetting drops and something else for said contacts - see above.
6. yarn store receipt - it was at work, but still....
What should I do with the 6 or so old lense cases? throw them away or try and donate?
