It's been over a month since I've posted anything and I haven't accumulated a big pile to get rid of either...but with an out of town trip over the 4th of July weekend, finding out I'm expecting (and all the feeling yuck that comes with that), throwing a big B-day party for DH and Bug a couple weeks ago, having family come in for a 3 day visit this past weekend, and dealing with non-stop daily temps of over 100 degrees (which brings on migraines under normal, non-pregnant conditions)...well...it's been a bit insane around here!! I've done a lot of organizing and clearing of the main living areas...just not to the extent of coming up with items to show to the door, so to speak!!

Anyway, here's what I DO have to list for now...

Recycle:

1 big bin of paper

1 big bag of wire drycleaner hangars

Trash:

1 novelty flashing light

Donate:

15 items of women's clothing

1 pair women's dress shoes

1 casual purse

New total: 429/2011

Today is a good day in terms of tossing, as we have a kerbside pick up tomorrow which happens only twice a year here, so we were finally able to put out the huge exercise machine that has been cluttering up the garage. It is really old and was just collecting cobwebs. Yay!!   joy.gif

Also put out an old plastic table that my son used for years as a toddler, it was hard to put that outside, but it had gone mouldy in the garage anyhow.

plus:

beach toy

clown wig

pirate hat

birdnest chimes

The decluttering has slowed down a bit around here and I have been concentrating more on organizing the things that are remaining.  However, one big project that I am tackling is to eliminate all the excess paper items that seem to follow me around.  There are always magazines, receipts, bill stubs, stacks of recipes that I set aside and endless files of stuff. Time for a major purge.

5 paper piles so far

9 pens

my old name badge from when I worked at...dare I say it, McDonald's blush.gif back in high school. Why on earth was I keeping this???

I've still got paper clutter, as well. And, um, I recently decluttered my old McDonald's Employee of the Month Plaques. I'm soon to be working on decluttering more of my old college papers and such. I also kept my old textbooks for way too long.

Congrats, Curlyfry, on the new baby!  I hope you're enjoying your babymoon and not decluttering too much!

I'm moving slow in the heat, but I'm still holding out hope for my 2011-item goal.

This week:

  • floor-cleaning machine given to MIL (I like it, but it's way too much work to haul it out every time I want to wash my 9 square feet of kitchen floor!  Better for MIL, whose bad knees make floor-scrubbing impossible.)
  • lip gloss DD ate - trashed
  • 2 shirts that don't fit - donated
  • basket for holding paper napkins (we only use cloth napkins around here) - donated
  • 18 plastic containers with lids - given to soup kitchen
  • thank-you notes for baby gifts finished (this was major clutter in my dining room, so I'm counting it as one item!)

We keep chipping away at this...

Here I am just ten posts later and have to say that I ended up losing the baby last week (at almost nine weeks pregnant and after having seen baby and heard heartbeat). This is the second one in less than six months and was even more of a blow than the other one as I had barely made it to four weeks with the other one. I think we are just gonna take some time off from trying for a while. It'll give my body time to heal, us time to figure out what might have caused the miscarriages, and really just time to get the rest of our life in order. Since we do plan on selling our house, buying an RV, and heading out on the road in the next 1-3 years then while we are taking a break from trying for a baby I plan on losing some weight...both on my body and in our house!! I haven't even gotten a quarter of the way through the 2011 in 2011 challenge and the mess that's accumulated over the last two weeks (despite a good friend who helped with the basic chores) has really been getting to me!!

So expect to see me a lot more around here from Monday on...as I post about what I'm ridding myself of. Oh yeah, and while I was laying around on the couch I decided to start a twitter where I post about what I'm ridding myself of and keeping tabs of the total. I saw someone else on this forum posted about someone doing that and I thought it was a great way to keep things accountable and get them cleared out. Anyway....here's the twitter... http://twitter.com/#!/Riddingmyexcess

Sorry for your loss Texanromaniac. I hope decluttering your life helps you clarify your mind and deal with your grief.

Today I sold several sets of wedding rings to our jewler, including my grandparents and great-grandparents. All of them were married until the day they died, ao there was slot of sentiment there. But they are melting down the gold and using it to forge me an anniversary band, so I will be getting some of that back. Sentimental items are the hardest for me to let go of, even though they do nothing but sit in boxes.
