I was up late running off of pure inspiration.  I didn't think I would find much, seeing as how we live in such a small home.

I was so wrong!  Between myself and my 4 children, I managed to load 284 things in the car last night.  I am going to continue today.  I had no idea how much stuff could be hidden in a 700 sq foot house.

Awesome start! Congrats! I think a lot of us are surprised by how much stuff we have in our homes when we make the decision to declutter. This is my second year. I never thought I had that much stuff before. I'll probably participate again next year. Even if I don't make the 2012 goal, I will be keeping clutter at bay by staying focused on what I allow into my home in the first place.

Decluttering for gifting purposes, and found a whole pile of clutter to turn into Christmas presents.  

- 2 positively ancient cartons of Epsom salts from the bathroom cupboard, transformed into elegant bath salts with a little essential oil and food coloring -- voila!  Decluttered AND made some nice gifts for the in-laws!  

- 1 old jar of sea salt from the pantry -- mixed in with the Epsom salts

- 12 jars that have been sitting around well over a year, waiting to go somewhere - filled with bath salts, along with other homemade goodies

- 3 old gift bags

- 8 toys

- candleholder and candles -- a nice set that will be a lovely white-elephant exchange gift

- pasta making machine -- never opened.  Going the same way as the candle holder. 

- 2 slightly obscene souvenir statues from ten years ago -- another white elephant delight

Of course, I went to the thrift store today and found a whole bag of someone else's clutter for only $2, so of course I felt obligated to buy it.  But it was such COOL clutter!!!  Elastic and buttons and ribbons and fabric and scissors and... okay, okay, it was just more clutter.  Better rejoin next year's thread...

2011 items seems so far away, but if it wasn't for that number, I wouldn't even be doing this right now.  I like a challenge. 

Thrift shopping is my weakness.  While I am not ready to cut myself off, it would be nice to get to the point

where I can still shop if I make sure and get rid of something when I bring stuff in.

Thank you! I'm going to continue to post for the rest of the year and then I'll join the 2012 thread. :-) Whether or not we make the goal, or how close we come to it, we're all making our homes more harmonious and less cluttered.

Well, I am accepting that I will not make the 2011 goal this year...I will blame it on a 3 week ICU stay for my daughter, a new baby, and the resulting fussy/never-let's me-put-him-down life I've been living, but I made a pretty darn good start in my decluttering mission!! Here's my latest:
-about 80 oz of BM donated-counting as 1 item
-2 prs jeans
-6 receiving blankets
-2 hats
-2 scarves
-4 pairs socks
-2 bars soap (fancy)
-2 sleepers
-15 maternity items
-40 toys
-10 misc items trashed
-1 book donated to work
-8 kids pants to friend
-5 items trashed
-10 old magazines trashed
-5 items kids clothes to friend

118 + 1258 = 1376

I doubt I'll get anything more out before the end of the year, although I do have a tupperware I need to take for donation, so I MAY be able to squeeze that in this week. HOWEVER!!!!! I am not discouraged, and am eagerly awaiting next year and the 2012 challenge as I'll have a ton of baby stuff to get rid of, and will also get rid of the rest of my maternity stuff, etc etc.

I wanted to try for 1500 things, but I can't think of much more to get rid of that we don't really want or need.  And as soon as I count up the new christmas gifts received.. I bet we will be back down to 1400 or so.  My partner said it's good we can't find anything else we don't need, because maybe that means we didn't accumulate much in the first place :) I think that's a good way to look at it.
