I am so impressed with how everyone is doing. I am finishing up my end of year cleaning and decluttering. I hope to find 1578 things in the next few days to reach the 2011 goal. By the time I am done, I will have kicked out all of the unnecessary, even if I don't reach that particular number. I want to start fresh on the 1st with the 2012 . With new things coming in all year, I will be able to stay on top of things.
Good luck, hope to post a new number soon.

I don't know what I was thinking when I aimed to get rid of 2011 things in one week.
Â
Unlike my monthly donation trips throughout the year, this last week has been about stepping out of my comfort zone. Usually the stuff I take is obvious; outgrown, unloved, stuff that is no longer useful to us. This last week was about seeking out and targeting the tough stuff. I had no idea how emotional it could be to sort through a bin of toys. Its always about the regret. What if I need it, what if I can't afford to replace it, what if they resent me for getting rid of all their stuff. Well, what if I waste another year of their childhood on stuff, period!Â
Not gonna happen, especially not now. Thanks for the inspiration!
Â
Plus, they still have plenty of stuff.![]()

Â
Yes it sure is hard getting rid of stuff, I think that people that find it easy to throw stuff out are quite rare! Especially anything linked with our children..their clothes, toys, photos of them, etc!Â
Â
And I hear you re the regret thing...but I think the bottom line is that even if you may throw out one or two things that you may miss one day, overall you are all better off living in a lighter house with less stuff, so maybe accidentally tossing one or two things that you may even need to replace, is a small price to pay in the long run!Â
cleaning out a bathroom cupboard:
Â
1Â used pregnancy test where i *thought* i saw a line from a really long time ago... apparently i did not ever go back and throw that away!
4 unused pregnancy tests - donated
8 misc boxes/papers/unused stick dippers for pregnancy and ovulation detector stuff - tossed
1 tube of very expired cream
Â
Â
6 random unusable screws - tossed
Â
= 20 more for total of 560 this year. next year's goal: to exceed this years (and maybe even get to 2012!)

For all who are interested in continuing on the decluttering journey:
Â
901 - piece of furniture that I got $75.00 for.Â
Â
903 - 2 books that went with the furniture.Â
Â
and I have some stuff written down that may or may not have made this list.Â
Â
29 baby items,Â
plus car seat and 2 bases to a friend of mine. Can't remember if I recorded that here or not.Â
