I posted an ad for some of my daughter's 3T clothes (she's a 4T now)- I sold them right away and then got another response from someone begging me for the clothes- so I found myself digging through the kid's closet to find all the 3T stuff I could find. Pretty good motivation to go through the clothes when someone is offering you money for them! lol

+20 kid's clothes items

handful of misc toys/garbage from playroom

deleted tons of files on my computer

book for graphing calculator that I'm pretty sure my ex ended up with 3.5 years ago- which means its moved with me twice eyesroll.gif

plastic storage bag for comforter

1001!

Oh kinda funny, I told my mom about doing this, and how many I was up to.. she paused and then said "well I hope you aren't getting rid of anything I spent money on!"  I said mom, what am I suppose to do? You send us a couple packages a month! I don't have infinite storage space!  She quickly changed the subject.  lol!

I'm going to try to make it to 1000 before we move on Saturday!

ETA:
1 pair holey socks
1 random piece of material in baby's toys
1 plastic lid from baby's toys
18 homemade wipes that I didn't like using for baby wipes repurposed to cleaning rags
1 old diaper tossed

I also got shelves for my two bookcases that didn't have any, so my books are no longer in stacks and I'm working on weeding out duplicates.

Tomorrow I'm tackling the spare bedroom after I get back from errands. I need to get it cleaned out enough to put ALL of dd's toys in there and eventually transition her into that being her bedroom instead of her sharing rooms with me. I really need my own space back and to not have her around 24/7.

I'm also having a yard sale in two weeks, so my numbers will go up hopefully as I sort out things for that.

added another 15 bottle caps today, still working on the bookshelves and haven't made it to the spare bedroom yet. DD is sick, so we've been taking it easy.

190 + 15 = 205/2011

I just sent my first load out today.  I'm sitting at 208/2011.  I wrote a blog post about it.  I'm a bit overwhelmed that I have 1803 left to go!

Seriously don't worry about how much is left to go. It gets easier and easier the more you do, and it adds up faster than you'd think it would.  The first couple days or weeks are the hardest I think.

I second that!  And, remember that 2011 items in a year = about 171 a month.  If you're over 171, you're ahead of your goal!

Seriously, it goes so quickly once you start! We're moving so it's a little easier since I'm going through all our stuff anyway. I plan on having boxes for donate and throw out stuff to be tossed into as we move in as well. With all the piles of packed boxes I KNOW there is more we can get rid of!

Yeah, I'm overwhelmed by the number left to go but also getting excited by the idea of *every* nook, cranny, drawer, and closet being organized and filled only with the things we truly want and need. It sounds very light and freeing.

I'm excited too, last year I joined in August and still managed to squeak by for 2010 items on the 31st. This year I'm glad to be starting a lot earlier. My house is feeling so much roomier and easier to keep clean. I love it!
Thanks mamas for keeping me motivated. thumb.gif

Just listed a bunch of baby gear on craigslist for clear away! Woot!

I'm starting a little late in the game, but I think it's still early enough in the year to make it 2011

Garbage:

22 old broken toys

Pair of pants with huge rip in the butt

Pair of DS#2's PJs that had holes in it.

2 rubber pick things for gum exercise that had seen better days

1 kids book that was completely destroyed

1 box of feminine hygiene products that have been around since my college days and I hate them

1 giant ugly floor lamp that takes up too much room in a house that doesn't need it

To the pp whose mom got a bit upset over the 'challenge' my mom sends us useless junk all the time too. I've stopped telling her about the challenge and stopped getting upset over the $$ wasted on postage etc.  I just take the stuff to goodwill, kiddie resale etc and move on with my life...  I've called it mental decluttering as well...  It's taken me years of therapy to be 'ok' with this...  I can not control my mother but I can control myself!

Good luck... maybe one day your mom and my mom will figure out that checks dont take up alot of space (or just bank to bank transfers are even better!!)

Made some progress today. Threw away a bunch of things from the bathrooms and started going on the kitchen. I also added more stuff to the metal recycling pile but I'm not counting it until it's gone.
And I identified a bunch of new areas in need of decluttering. 2 big ones - pantry and cupboard with spice. I have close to 200 candles in there (a bunch of these are tealights). Yikes! wish me luck, I'd like to tackle these this weekend.
So new total - 346. thumb.gif
