serial ultrasounds to follow subchorionic bleeding?

Hi everyone.  I am about 9 weeks pregnant and I was diagnosed with a subchorionic bleed at 7 weeks.  The back-up doc I went to wants to follow it with serial ultrasounds every two weeks.  I have an appt. tomorrow, but am thinking of canceling.  I am just not sure I want to have an ultrasound every two weeks. They can't do anything about this condition anyway and most of the time it resolves on its own.  I wouldn't mind having another u/s about 14 weeks or so, but I am not sure about two weeks.  What do you think?

Thanks in advance and have a great day!

I was diagnosed at 7 1/2 weeks with SCH.  They said if I had more bleeding I could have another u/s, but otherwise they will do the 20 wk anatomy scan and check it then.  But, I have opted to have a followup at 15 1/2 weeks (next week) to see if it's resolved.  You're right that there is nothing they can do but check.

if you're not still bleeding red i would probably cancel too.  4 weeks should give you a better idea about it shrinking anyway.

Thanks guys!  I just don't want to expose a developing baby to so much ultrasound!  I know I am probably paranoid : )

Not having anything but some light brown show maybe once a week or less if I overdo it.

Talked with my midwife this morning and I will wait to go in around 20 weeks to follow-up unless I have more bleeding.  Just want to be prudent!

Appreciate the advice.

I've had this with both this pregnancy and the last one. The dr's didn't do anything to follow up and I was fine with that. If it was a big bleed or something I might be more likely to follow up with an u/s. Both of mine resolved on their own.

I have one with this pregnancy. Due to my history of miscarriage and the SCH increasing those chances my OB has ordered an ultrasound with each bleed. I don't like exposing my baby to that many ultrasounds, but it does ease my mind that everything is okay.

I had a SCH at 11 weeks w/ my last baby. I bled very heavy. I was UP and was diagnosed in the ER. I never had another U/S and continued UP. I bled 4 days red and then brown until 16 weeks. I had an uncomplicated pregnancy otherwise w/ Finnian born UC, at term, easy delivery.

I had very heavy bleeding at 5 1/2 weeks with this pregnancy. I actually thought I had miscarried, because I bled so heavy and passed so many clots. However, a week later I was still feeling nauseous and still testing positive, so I went in for an u/s. I was still very pregnant, but the tech said I had a Subchorionic Hematoma. She said it was large and that I would probably have more bleeding or that it might resolve on its own. I opted to wait till my big anatomy scan to follow up on it which I had last month at 18 1/2 wks. It had pretty much completely gone away on its own.

Very similar thing happened to me. Tested positive, days later started bleeding heavily, I was literally gushing blood everywhere, I assumed m/c. A week later I was still sick and tested positive. I assumed Subchorionic as well, I haven't done an u/s, so we shall see.

I had one too, at 5 1/2 wks- i thought i was miscarrying. They confirmed it at my date scan at 8 wks, then by 20 wks it was gone. I think every 2 wks is overkill- also known as CYA (cover your as*)...

I want to thank everyone for your replies.  I cancelled my appt. today and haven't made another.  I may, or may not, get it checked at 20 weeks.  We'll just see how it goes.  At this point I am just having brown spotting maybe once a week or less.  I am guessing that is okay.  Thanks, everyone!
