We have a new family practitioner since our old one retired when I was pregnant with my second son, who was born in November. I really like this new doctor -- she seemed impressed by our homebirth, just assumed we won't be vaccinating (which we're not) and did not even try to argue about it, etc. But at my son's second visit she retracted his penis and told us to do that every so often. I'm not sure what her reasoning was...I think she said something about keeping it clean or preventing infection.

My DH was standing next to the table where the baby was lying, and I was sitting on the other side of the doctor with our five-year old, so I did not see her do this. I didn't even know she had until we were driving home when DH told me. I had watched her carefully at my son's first visit to make sure she didn't touch his foreskin, but I guess I forgot to warn my DH to watch her too. I'm pretty upset. My baby didn't cry or anything, and his penis looks fine, but my DH said he saw the head of it when she retracted it.

Of course I'm going to say something at our next visit and tell her emphatically NOT to touch his foreskin anymore. But is there something I could/should print out to show her? She seems pretty progressive and she might be open to seeing my point of view.
