flyabuv, you lucky girl, I wish the CO, CLO would kick my libido into high gear :)  I never thought about the low libido being connected to my PCOS. 

My whole family grew up on diet soda as our main drink, all of us are overweight.  I just cut out the diet soda about a month ago, it was hard because I have been drinking alot since I was young, major addiction.  I always thought since it was no calories that I wouldn't gain weight because of it, but quite contrary I have very low sugar cravings since I stopped drinking it, and that was before the TF diet.  Of course my Mom is still drinking it.  My brother's nick name with his friends is popcan.

Kallyn:  I'll have to try the chicken with coconut peanut sauce sounds delicious!  I just tried a salisbury steak recipe off of a TF blog.  It has a red wine beef stock reduction as the sauce with mushrooms and onions, the best salisbury steak I ever had.

Ghostlykisses:  My AF came too and I fell off the wagon with horrendous chocolate cravings.  Those damn cadbury mini eggs get me every year!  Wow you even behaved during Christmas!  Needless to say I didn't :)  Yes tommorrow is a new day and hopefully all will be back on track.

herent, would you be able to share or PM a link to the salisbury steak recipe?  I love anything with red wine and mushrooms (and since I'm trying not to drink wine much right now, it would be nice to at least cook with it ;) ).

 CherryBomb, I have been the same way since Friday. My hormones went wacky and I am depressed about a situation in my life that I don't know how to fix. This is the first time I have "fallen off the wagon" weight loss wise since Thanksgiving. I even behaved at Christmas! Tomorrow is a new day though, back at it. I hope you will be too :)



Yeah, I was totally right, my first real pp period started like 2 days after I posted!  With a vengeance.  Not to get too TMI but my periods are super heavy, I think I have a hormonal issue (maybe low progesterone, my post peak phase was like 2 days long!!)  I'm trying to get back on the wagon, but it's tough because I have no food money left and won't have more for another 9 days!  So it's basically what's in the house plus WIC checks right now :/

Had a busy day in the kitchen today.  I made Kimchi and ginger carrots.  I was getting a little tired of saurkraut all the time, don't get me wrong I love my saurkraut.

My weight hasn't budged since the 3lb loss, I need to continue upping the fat, I'm up to 4tbs of CO with no nausea, and cut back on some of the whole grain carbs. 

I made the pancakes in NT and they were great, my 8 year old even liked them, he is excited about eating real maple syrup since we have always had the fake stuff.  I'm going to try to sneak more NT into my kids diets we will see how that goes, my oldest is a junk food junkie, and now I'm refusing to buy the stuff.  They are teaching my son the food pyramid at school, of course not one to keep quiet I piped up and told him it was wrong and he should tell his health teacher she's teaching prehistoric stuff.  He's afraid he will get in trouble.  So I told him one of my favorite mantras "Don't believe everything people tell you, do your own research"  I would love to have my 8 year old tell the health teacher whats up.

 

Hows everyone doing?  Anyone lose anymore weight?

Well, I'm having a hard time getting back on the wagon, but I'm trying :)  It'll be easier once food money comes in, my hands are kind of tied right now, I just don't have much cash at the moment.  I am going out to the local organic farm this evening to pick up some beef soup bones and maybe some pork if she's got any specials.  I'm chowing down on some sausage, kale, and chickpea soup right now, I made it with duck stock since I'm out of beef stock and it's still delicious :)  I did manage to lose a little more weight, even though I've fallen off the wagon and doing some emotional eating because of my period!  So 5 pounds total, in 3 weeks, not bad.

 

What are you putting your ferments in?  I'd like to do some saurkraut, will it work in a mason jar?  I tried the carrots before but I don't think I left them out long enough, I should probably scrap them and try again. They just taste salty (but I don't have whey so I used the extra salt, I need to make some, doesn't sound difficult).

Oh, and I feel you on the kid thing.  Dd1 is definitely a junk food junkie and I'm entirely too permissive :(  It's my fault for buying her crap like bagel bites and pizza rolls just because she asks for them.  The other girls aren't too bad, they like a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, and dd3 especially really loves meat.  They both devoured the soup I made last  night, while I couldn't get dd1 to touch it.  They're pretty open to the NT type foods, but not dd1.  And, she has awful teeth :(  I ate like total crap when I was pregnant with her, and we were veg*n till she was 2, then on pretty SAD.  It's only been since dd2 was born 4 years after dd1 that I started getting into healthy foods and real foods, and I can see the difference.  I ate much healthier in dd2's pregnancy and her teeth do have some crowded, but no cavities.  dd1 has had 2 teeth pulled and tons of cavities.  We went to the dentist last week for her 6 months cleaning and she had 6 cavities.  I feel so bad :(  (She was bottlefed, too).

I'm sorry about the cavities, poor girl :(  Surprisingly my sons have good teeth no cavities but slight crowding.  Ds2 has a much better diet than Ds1.  Ds2 had cancer at 6 months of age (he's cancer free now at 3 years) so we have to have him on a very healthy diet because of his risks of having cancer as an adult, so he was exposed very early to healthy meals and prefers berries or cheese over candy or bread, but Ds1 was not exposed to healthy meals early on and now he prefers junk so I have to be very vigilant of his diet as well.  I think the key is just starting slowly and trying to find healthy things they will eat and hopefully there taste for junk will change.  In the last 3 weeks I found out Ds1 likes my homemade hummus and loves seaweed from Trader Joes, go figure.

 

Yes I just make my ferments in quart canning jars, if I keep up with it I'm hoping my husband will buy me some crocks, we plant a garden every year so it would be nice to have some crocks, but I wanted to be sure I will continue to make the fermented foods and make the investment worth it.

The recipes in NT only make 1-2 jars at a time so it's easy doing them in quarts.  I also use whey and not the extra salt, and mine haven't turned out salty, I also ferment longer than the recipe calls for, I go for 5 days, I also taste it before I refrigerate it to make sure it's at the level of fermentation I want it because I've heard if you stop it to early and refrigerate it and try to ferment it longer after refrigeration it won't work.  I still have a few more days of fermentation on the kimchi and ginger carrots so we will see how they turn out.  Definately go for the whey next time.

Herent, if you are reading this thread again ... what advice can you give me about kimchi ?

 

I started my first batch ever a little less than 2 days ago but I have NO IDEA what it's supposed to taste like before I refrigerate it .... I found an adapted recipe suitable for an anti-candida diet  on a website and have followed every step (I think) ....

 

it says to refrigerate after 72 hours .... I was not sure what would happen if I would "forget it" at room temperature for an extra day or so ... am so new to that ....

 

DH never trusts anything that doesn't come from a store (even after witnessing that nothing wrong happened to me during the 18 months that I made my own fermented milk with kefir grains someone sent me !) and wouldn't try my orange wine the first time I offered a taste to some friends (only the next time, when he saw me offering some to a rather elderly relative, reasonning that surely I wouldn't take the risk of killing one of my relatives ...)

 

All that to say that I don't have any local support ... and I'm supposed to try and taste my first batch tomorrow evening ....

 

on the EFLF front, I haven't got the book but had to radicaly change my eating plan due to candida in the gut (giving me only trouble in my back passage, but rather serious trouble) and I should think that I'm following what it says to do ....

 

am not counting precisely how much coconut oil I cook with but have upped it substantially and am really pleased to see 1.4 kilos gone in only 4 days (another 20 at least need to go !)

 

have also cut out grains except for a little oat bran

all fruits except lemon and another citrus I don't know the name in english

finally cut out all dairy

... and fake sugar (never thaught I would manage that one !!!)

 

am enjoying shopping for fresh vegetables (only the less sweet ones thought due to candida)

and making stir fries with meat or sea food

am also making bone broth to which I add coconut oil and a beaten egg ....

IsaFrench:  My Kimchi is a little sour and spicy, not salty at all.  I left mine for 4 days and it's just right.  It shouldn't go bad leaving it out because the bacteria that grows during the fermentation process actually preserve it.   People make kimchi and saurkraut in crocks and leave them for months without refrigeration.  The only way it would go bad is if outside bacteria were introduced, like a bug gets caught in it, or someone puts dirty hands in the container etc.  Apparently it smells really bad if it goes bad and apparently you would know it, but I haven't had a batch go bad yet, so can't comment on that.  I would leave the kimchi out at least 4 days, I leave my saurkraut out 5 days and it's alittle more pungent than the kimchi, 1 day can make all the difference, it's ok to open it up and taste it with a clean spoon to see if it tastes good to you.  If you like it a little more sour wait another day or two.  Hope this helps.

(hoping to meet someone who knows a little about kimchi tomorrow but not sure yet .... and hoping to give them some so that they can tell me what they think !)

7 pounds in 7 days ... (3.5 kilos so that's 7 pounds, right ?) am just so pleased I finally took the plunge and started upping my coconut oil intake

I feel so much better, am able to not miss dairy nor sugar nor fake sugar and am eating much more stir fried vegetables now that they are prepared with coconut oil and unrefined sea salt.

thanks to all the previous posters for posting because if I hadn't read about it here on MDC, I wouldn't have known/dared give it a try !

 

it's been 9 years I've been trying to loose weight (after the last two pregnancies) so finding a way that makes sense, that works and which let me enjoy food and be full of energy ... it's just great ...

 

only about 19 kilos to go ... but now I'm optimist about it !

Actually, it's a little over 7.5 lbs!  Great job!!!  I'm still stuck at my 5lb loss, but I have been having trouble getting back up on the wagon!

Oh, and the ferments that are sold at the health food store are made by a local man, and his label says he ferments them all for 2 weeks!

Cherrybomb Good luck!  I'm still enjoying mine I have three different ferments in the fridge so I get to enjoy something different everyday. 

In a PP I commented I was growing a Kombucha scoby from some Dave's GT kombucha, well the scoby is ready today so I just brewed some tea, so I can't wait to enjoy some fresh kombucha.  I have lost a few more pounds, I am up to 5 tbs of CO a day, I have slipped up some though, but I'm human.  We are ttc with PCOS and this month I ovulated way earlier so I think TF is helping with my fertility.  So my fingers are crossed for a BFP this month :)

I made this beef coconut curry thing tonight and I think it would fit perfectly into EFLF: http://www.whats4eats.com/meats/rendang-daging-recipe. We had it with brown rice (cooked for 2 hours in bone broth) and papaya/daikon salad. Sooooo delicious!

Eta: forgot to mention, used CO for the oil (duh smile.gif) and coconut palm sugar for the sugar and as many of the optional ingredients as I had in the kitchen.

I bought EFLF last Spring a few weeks before my house burned down, and then my husband was laid off, so haven't had the money to replace it yet, so I can't say I'm following the diet :)  However, I'm gradually making changes to my diet as my finances, mental stamina and time will permit.  I just recently placed an order with Tropical Traditions and got gallons of expeller pressed coconut oil BOGO w/ free shipping.

 

Lowfat milk's been replaced with whole or half and half if we get it from the supermarket and local raw if we can afford the dairy (since they don't take food stamps).  Most mornings, if I have coffee, I've been stirring in a generous spoon full of coconut cream concentrate from Tropical Traditions.  I hear that most people don't like it, which leaves me baffled... I adore it!  I made some "candy" with it, too, melting it and stirring in fresh almond butter, coconut oil and a bit of honey (which I've since concluded was unnecessary since the CCC is SO sweet!) and then adding in some toasted sliced almonds and unsweetened shredded coconut and raw cacao nibs.

 

I'm a member of the second largest buying club in the US and am thrilled to say they take food stamps.  Makes life a whole lot easier.  I'm eating more sourdough & fermented grains when I can work in the time, and I'm cutting back on the starch when I can.  I've picked up a whole pastured lamb and located a farmer to get grassfed beef & pastured pork meat, organs and bones from.  Right now I'm working on a fundraiser for my school selling pork for him and I'm hoping to get some pastured lard and organ meats out of it.  I even found a cheap source of free range eggs, which is thrilling me, but I still could use an affordable source of pastured poultry.  I'm waiting to hear back about bartering for a CSA share this summer, too.  I am going to be proactive about this stuff!

 

I've come across a dough recipe that my pickier kids are happy to eat wrapped around pizza filling, rather than buying frozen pizza pockets, and will be making "toaster pastries" and "pocket pies" for everybody with it.  Quick to make, easy, cheap, how can you go wrong?

 

IN any case, I don't have a scale, but despite small changes, my clothes are getting noticably loose.  My properly fitted jeans can now be removed without unbuttoning first and are rapidly approaching falling down if I don't get a belt.  I don't think I'll go from 26/28 to 2/4 from these little changes, but if I could drop a few sizes by spring, it would make me Very Happy.

This website is fabulous, thank you for sharing it. I just made a vegetable pot pie that was to die for - I made a few adjustments to make it fit the weight loss plan but it was easy to do.
