52 Project Challenge, 2011 - Page 21

Hey, that's awesome about your classes, Karen!  I wish I lived nearby so I could come, too!  FunFun!

I am taking one more point for making another faux leather purse to replace the one that  sold- because I wanted one for me.  I wanted to show this one off because I like it so much.

bag1.JPG

and here is the patchwork one I did with the little piece of patchwork that had been floating around my sewing room for more than a year.  The print fabric was sent to me (just a SMALL scrap piece) by an MDC mama in a swap a couple of years ago.

and now, I REALLY need to get on the making of the Christmas gifts!  I hope everyone has a happy and productive week.  I am thankful for THIS THREAD!  I don't think I would have gotten so much done yet this year if it wasn't for the challenge!

Beautiful work!!!

I, too, am grateful for this thread. It helps me keep my UFOs closer to the front of my mind.... ;)

I love love this thread! Not only does it keep me motivated to work on this but i get so many ideas from you all..

Ms. Shell- those bags are lovely!

I need to get cracking on things.. Yesterday I got a big box of fabric to do Christmas presents with! My children already saw the fabric and now I need to hide it or they will take off with it. I'm so excited to have stuff to sew up without having to go to the store for each little thing. I'm NOT NOT a shopper. For example Ive had baby outfits cut out and half sewn for almost 1 1/2 months.. Why aren't they done? I need interfacing and can't bring myself to brave the crowds and go to the fabric store. Have I mentioned I live in a tourist area? The stores are crowded no matter the time of day or time of the year.

Before anything else though I HAVE TO finish the bus sweater Im test knitting. I got half way done with the back last night and realize I knitted the whole thing on the wrong size needles.. I had to undo it all. Today my goal is to get the back DONE. Its only a 2T sweater so its doable as long as i don't get to distracted and side tracked doing other things (like sewing).

Heather, I normally do not go to Wal-Mart, but the one near me just put in a fabric dept, and I love being able to run in there for interfacing (I can't believe how quickly I go through that stuff) or machine needles or a zipper, etc.  It saves me a ton of money because I am not tempted to buy fabric (their cottons especially, are really cheap and inferior) like I am at the real fabric store and I can just get what I need.  I have tried and failed many times at running into Hancock for JUST what I need!

Ms.Shell. My problem is the crowds.. I have panic attacks if I feel boxed in and stores in general make me feel like Im being boxed in by people. So I avoid stores in general. I go grocery shopping and thats about it. I order most of the stuff I need online. Im good being outside among crowds at least so I spend time places with my kids, I just can't stand stores and crowds. I should have ordered some interfacing when I got the fabrics for Christmas but forgot to. Guess Im braving the stores next week. I have to get some quilt batting anyway.

i think i was as 50/52.  I knit a ragamuffin hat, sewed a couple of pairs of mittens, sewed a pair or baby shoes, and made a crochet hook roll.  So now I am at 54/52.  I have so many other projects that I should get working on- but I think I am moving out of that phase in my life.  I just can't get motivated.  I really used to love crafting and now- not so much.

I have been spending a lot of time with my cows- my DH bought me a new Jersey (so now I have 3) and a holstien- and then 5 calves.  So that has been just wearing me out.  And this baby is zapping my energy.  So at night when I should be knitting or doing something productive- I sit and think about how tired I am....

Sorry- that was off topic.  Okimom- I just get extremely irritable in stores.  It really isn't a pretty picture.  I just get mean and snarly and then cry.  So I get the avoidance.  I have a little tiny sewing store nearby that has like maybe 40 bolts of fabric- but she has a huge case of zippers and while old- they are marked at original prices (so like $.60!)  I have really stocked up on them.  So much better to make do with one than to not have one to start with.  And I just have figured out to buy a bolt or half bolt of interfacing when I have a really good coupon.  Makes all the difference :)

Finally finished a nice chunk of projects that have been waiting in the wings for a long, long time...

~ An old toy box became a new garden box and will grow lettuce and spinach this winter. Yum!

~ Cotton sheers were shortened and hung up in my office window.

~ An Ikea wire hanging system was finally hung in our studio and is functioning as my "flannel board" (aka design board). I had the wire system and white flannel for years, but used the flannel eventually. LOL I only purchased enough white flannel for this exact project ONLY. That was hard...

IMG_1694.jpg

~ Mended DH's gloves, my pants, and DD's camisole. I also had DD try on and articulate why she had FIVE shirts in the mending pile. Turns out, only two of five needed anything. One is finished; three are put where they belong (two in charity, one in her room). I didn't want to change the thread in the serger just yet, so the last one will wait a bit. (No pictures; too boring...LOL)

I am currently working on a UFO, this blanket is going to be titled 'grass and water', hence its green and blue.  If I need more yarn I will add white for 'sky'.   I have no idea if this will finish in 2011 or 2012.

My son has really taken to Swap-bot and Postcrossing so I've been doing alot of postcards, regular cards and things lately.

I've joined sunny on the organization challenge this month and I NEED to get this hall closet under control. (that means I need to find shelves)

The only good thing about apartment living is unlimited dumpster usage. hide.gif

My son's Sock Monkey blanket has been postponed until Valentines Day- 2012, I hope.

I don't know what my problem is....  I can not get after anything!  I just found out my aunt and uncle are coming to Christmas- so I need to come up with something that is functional, cute, and small for their stockings....  Any ideas?

Can you knit? Im doing mug cozys and mugs then putting hot cocoa and mini marshmellows (or coffee for the coffee drinkers, most of my family is LDS and we don't drink coffee). Its functional and small (and slightly on the cheap side)

My 2011 Project List resurfaced last night and I can cross off a few more items!!! :)

~ I touched up the paint in the family office and hung a narrow shelf and magnetic board above my desk chair.

~ We finally found the perfect "box" for the top of our cat perch (a natural fiber round basket) and wrapped the trunk with sisal, so it is a second scratching post now. All materials were repurposed (given to us or leftover supplies) and this project has been hanging around in various stages so long! Our "kitten" turns three years old in mid-January...LOL It has been available to the cat in various states for over a year and she LOVES it!

~ A handful of projects got donated instead of being finished! As we have been completing items, it has become clear we hadn't made up our minds on certain areas of the house and had several ideas for the same space. Once we made our decision, it was easy to quickly decide if the item could have a home elsewhere or could be passed onto someone else. Most get passed on. Lesson learned for us is to wait to buy anything until the decision is made! A couple other small things were finished and moved / hung to their new home (within ours...).

I decided on homemade jam.  I made some delish blueberry, strawberry, and grape jams this summer.  Who doesn't like that?  Only a diabetic I think :)  I made my aunt an apron- I would like to keep that for me though....  It is really pretty.  I think I just need to line a hat and finish knitting a scarf and I will be good for Friday.

I did start trying to figure out my next handbag design..  I might want some new hardware for it though...

I updated my Project List for 2012. When I started in 2010, my list was three pages long. For 2012, it is down to a single page of 40 items!!! WOO HOO!!!!

I counted all the scrapbook pages I finished in 2011.

~ In "Our Day at the Fair" album, I completed 15 pages. With my general rule of thumb of 7 pages as a "project", I am giving myself 2 credits for this.

~ I finished an entire album (Karin's Quilt Journal), including altering the outside cover, which is 43 pages at this point in time. (There are more pages, but I have not completed any more quilts to date.) So, I am giving myself 6 credits for this.

Edited to add:

I met my goal! I met my goal! Woo Hoo!

WTG sunny....,

I have not even begun to think about 2012.  I'm happy with what I've done in 2011.  I will sit down this weekend and look at my UFO's, look at my craft stash, my yarn box and start to plan out some projects.

My son is joining a swim team and practice is between 2-5 days a week.  Lots and LOTS of crafting time there. (He will probably practice 4 days most weeks for an hour).

Between crafts, decluttering and reading I have plenty to keep me busy.  I can only hope that I get subbing jobs as well. I need 2012 to be a great year all around.
