I had my 20w u/s yesterday and everything looked great except for the cyst, which measured small by the tech's standards. My dr. is out for the holiday so I don't think I will hear from her until next week. The tech said that she had never seen a cyst that had not gone away by the third tri but that they always do a follow up u/s to make sure. When I researched this online, I found that there is such a weak association with these cysts and any actual problems that it seems like overkill to do another u/s. We did the AFP quad screen and everything was excellent, very low probability of any genetic problems and I am under 35. The cysts are actually commonly noted in adult MRIs and have never been linked to any diseases or deformities. Our midwife and DH think it is silly to be overly concerned and don't see the need for a follow up u/s unless it makes me feel better, which I guess it would if it was all clear. FWIW, our midwife is not in the habit of ordering u/s's for healthy women and healthy pregnancies for reasons such as this.

As you can tell, I am trying not to worry. The introduction of the u/s in modern obstetrics has revealed so many intricacies of our anatomy that OBs feel it necessary to be overcautious about and scare us half to death in the process. During our 20w with DS he had an isolated short femur measurement (~1.5w behind other measurements) and I freaked out for weeks. We decided not to do another u/s because there was nothing it would really help. DS has always been of average height and perfectly proportioned so I feel that worrying about this cyst may be silly. But....
