How do you store your potatoes/onions?

We're redoing our kitchen. I've had potatoes and onions in a wicker basket forever, as has my mom. I don't know why...I just do :lol Apparently they sell wicker baskets for these two things, as well as bins and mesh cage things.

How and where do you store your potatoes and onions? Baskets, crates, mesh...toatlly a fluff thing (kinda) :D

Re: onions - I used to store them in a cabinet but now I store them in the fridge.  I like that better with the onions because they last longer (not a problem, we eat onions all day long) but mostly since my eyes won't water when they are slightly chilled like they do with fresh.

Onions go in a cabinet and potatoes are in our basement pantry where it's a bit cooler.

I'm going to have to try that.  I can barely cut onions anymore, they make my eyes water so bad.

I have drawers for pantry type goods, instead of a cabinet. I highly, highly reccomend this by the way! So nice to slide out a drawer, take the lid off the flour bin, take a scoop, replace lid and slide drawer closed without having to actually haul the flour (or salt, sugar) whatever out to the counter.

Anyway, I just drop the bag of onions or potatoes in the drawer. It's not fancy, but they are out of site, away from light, and easily accessible.
