I'm wondering about this. DD1 gets the national geographic magazine for kids, but she's more interested these days in something more focused on "being a girl." She wanted the American Girl magazine, at the bookstore today, but I didn't like it-- it's way too focused on stuff like the dolls that you have to buy. Are there nice magazines out there, targeted for grade-school girls? FWIW-- she's only six, but a fluent reader. She's reading the American Girl books avidly these days, and for the most part, other than the buy-stuff tie-in, I like those books. She's way past something like Highlights, in both her reading and interest levels. But anything with content focused on post-pubescent girls won't be appropriate.
I seem to remember there being a magazine that DH and I saw a year or two ago, and liked a lot, but I can't remember what it's called.
Edited to add: DH says it's Ranger Rick that she's getting these days; the National Geographic mags are coming to the twins these days. I got them mixed up.
