how much time?

Ds, 6, is in ps 1st grade.  I am toying with the idea of hs'ing him due to some of his sensory needs.  If I do, I will be a more structured hs'er, rather than an unschooler type.  I'm not working right now to stay home with my 1yo dd, but I will need to start back at the time she can attend daycare part-time, because we are very strapped right now.  So I will eventually be working p-t days (probably 3 days/week).  Kids are in public school for 7 hours per day, but a lot of that is taken up with extras.  How much time do people (especially those doing more structured teaching) spend on the formal parts of hs'ing?  How much time do you spend preparing?  If you also work, what do you do with your school age children during that time?

i'm currently working ft and hsing one 7 yo with special needs (sensory/ asd stuff). i just fit "school" in whenever i can. we use structured lessons, but i try to be very flexible for when we get things done. some days i double up on things, some i skip (i'm in school myself along with working, and sometimes i just need a day off from hsing). honestly her school stuff doesn't take more than an hr out of our days most of the time. most nights we pile onto the bed at about 7 pm and plow through school work before  i tuck her in. we hs year round, which gives us more flexibility.
