prefolds or bumgenius?

I'm ready to move to a size medium and I'm trying to decide between getting prefolds with a thirstie cover, or bumgenius pocket diapers.  Is it worth it to pay more for the pocket diapers? 

I was using prefolds with the thirsties duo's during the day with fuzzi bunz perfect size at night.  The fuzzi bunz started repelling and i havent had a chance to properly strip them, and now it's time for mediums.  I'm afraid I would have problems with repelling with the bumgenius as well.

Looking back, I would focus on prefolds with a Thirsties cover. We tried a few things in between because DD was old enough to undo the velcro on Thirsties. Nothing worked as well as that combo, or was worth the money. Just ordered some Thirsties covers with snaps so I think we'll be back to our perfect diaper situation.

I prefer bumgenius diapers over prefolds.  I did not care for prefolds and the bumgenius diapers are just so quick and easy not to mention cute!

I would go with some of each.  As the baby gets older, it's nice to be able to pack the BumGenius-type diapers for going out of the house.   I have a mix of everything and I like them all for different reasons.  Thirsties makes a pocket diaper too, if you know you like the fit of them.   I would order some Size 2 Duos with snaps.  I prefer velcro for a snugger fit, but they do learn how to undo it very quickly.

How old's the LO?  By about a year my DS could undo velcro covers and a snappi.  By about 11 mos or so he'd no longer lie still long enough to get a PF on him.  He's 2 now, and while I do still have a stack of PFs, they mostly get used to mop up the messes he makes, or under his butt when changing a poopy dipe. 

Also, if she's used to a stay-dry inner at night, switching to a PF may not be the best idea - you may find her sleeping less solidly because she feels wet.

Honestly, I'd get some of each.  And then I'd troubleshoot to try to figure out why you're having repelling issues.  I would get the GMD brown edge (we've outgrown the red edge already), a cover with snaps, and a OS pocket and go with that combo.  That can get you to PLing.

I went with prefolds and Thirsties snap covers and love them. We use Fuzzibunz only at night with a doubler.
DD is 2 and sometimes squirms all over, making it a little hard for changes but most of the time we can just get them on fast enough.
Mostly I prefer the prefolds because they are cheaper and easier to wash/dry.

I use a combo of both on my 13 month old. Bumgenius has a sale right now B2G1F on their clearance prints ($35.xx/3) and they seem to frequently run sales. I only buy mine during those times. I also have good luck and have since birth using trifolded prefolds placed in a thirsties duo cover.
