I just have to share this story because it was so cool that even though it happened a few weeks ago I'm still thinking sbout it.
so one of my best friends recently had twins. (yay!!!) She has a 3 year old DS who had a hard time with potty learning, so she really wants to use cloth diapers this time and maybe do a little EC, but she hasn't tried either yet since they're still newborns and she's overwhelmed. Anyway, I was visiting her before the holidays, and I was holding her DD when I noticed the baby was starting to poop. So I said to my friend, "Can I take her to the potty?"
"I don't care," my friend said.
So I took off the baby's diaper, took her to the toilet, and held her in the classic position. Sure enough, she immediately peed and then finished her poo. "Check it out!" I told my friend. "Your baby's a genius!"
My friend looked in the toilet, oohed and awed, and ran to tell her husband.
Well, of course after that I couldn't put a diaper back on right away! LOL! So I waited a while, watching the clock and figuring the baby would pee again in about 15 or 20 minutes. But after 10 minutes I felt a phantom pee. !?! I never felt that with my DD till she was much older. So I took the baby to the potty again, but she immediately arched her back and protested strongly--a totally different response from earlier! So I stopped and just held her for a while. Five minutes later exactly, she peed on me.
So the coolest part about the whole experience for me was actually not the catch but the miss. Not because I got peed on, of course, but just because of the way this newborn--not even my own newborn, for goodness sake!--was so clearly communicating with me. I had forgotten how amazing that part of EC is--how clearly newborns will actually TELL you stuff about elimination! I felt so bonded with my friend's baby. Now I can't wait to EC the boy baby next time I'm there.
I've never EC'd a boy before.
And I'm wondering too, was that baby actually giving me a five minute warning phantom pee? If so then she is an absolute EC genius. Total genius. Amazing.
