I have type 1 von willebrand disease and have had SUPER heavy periods since I started having one 15 years ago.  I've been to the doctor because for 5 or 6 days a month, the bleeding is debilitating.  I've had to start wearing an incontinence pad (the HUGE diaper ones) because the bleeding is so severe.  If I stand up too fast, I gush, when I wake up in the morning I have to run as fast as I can to the bathroom or else I leave a trail of blood.  Blah.  It's horrible.

Last year I was finally referred to a gyno who suggested 3 options.  Endometrial ablation, hysterectomy, or  cyklokapron and ponstan.  That was a few months after I had a breast reduction, so I did NOT want to go in for another surgery so close to another.  I was wanting to try the cyklokapron and ponstan, but I get anxious trying new medications since I've had a few side effects from other meds.  I am at my wits end though.  If I didn't just have gallbladder surgery a month ago I would totally  just go in and get the hysterectomy.  The ablation and hysterectomy would be covered 100% by medical insurance and the medications would be covered 80% by medical, and fro what I understand they are quite expensive!  We are done having babies, so that's not an issue.

Does anyone have any experiences with the two mediations or can offer any other suggestions?
