Questis about Toilet Cleaner recipes... Mixing Vin. and Proxcide? EO or Lemon Juice?

While I in no way have a problem just "playing chemist" when cleaning by pouring this and that (as long as I know they are safe)whistling.gif in the about measurements that I need to clean something, this dose not work for my other "Cleaners" in my home, aka my mom, mate and kids. They have recruited me to make solutions so here I am... Ok, when reading about how to make toilet cleaners I found A Lot of different recipes on the inter-webs and this first recipe was the only one that talked about making a batch to store were the second had a nifty idea of using salt. I was thinking of using these two parts (perhaps with some lemon juice) to make one SUPER CLEANER! but I just wanted to run my thinking past people who might have an idea what I am talking about being no one here at home will be able to help and they think I am 3, okay 20, steps away from crazy, LOL!

Recipe 1
2cups water

2 cups white vinegar

1 cup hydrogen peroxide

2 1/2 cups baking soda

50 to 60 drops of a naturally antiseptic essential oil such as lemon, lavender, orange or grapefruit (Pleasant scent and to boosts the disinfecting)

Combining the water, vinegar and hydrogen peroxide in the mixing bowl and stir well with a wooden (or plastic) spoon.
Add EO at this time and stir the again.
Once the blend is thoroughly mixed pour it into the plastic bottle to store it and replace the lid

To use the completed toilet cleaner add 1/2 to 3/4 cups of the solution to the toilet and allow it to set for a few minutes

After it has set use a toilet brush to scrub the toilet
Next add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the toilet making sure to sprinkle some on the parts of the toilet bowl not submerged in water
Once you add the baking soda it will begin reacting, scrub the toilet with the brush while the baking soda is still fizzing

I am guessing they, the people who wrote the recipe, hope a person will get about 5 cleanings out of one batch by how much BS they have say to set aside. Personally we will be setting none aside but rather, as always, making sure to have some on hand (unless I make the BS/ salt mix below). I was going to make much larger batch, and store it as I do not want to have to do this again for a while... I have better things to clean! lol.

My real question is the mixing Vin and Peroxide as I was always told this is a no, no - am I wrong? I know if you mix Vin and soap, the soap can turn unless there is a lot of water. I was wondering if this is what was going on here... the water making it okay to mix the Vin. and Peroxide. Does that sound off the wall? Also, my much lesser question is about the EO: 50 - 60! drops!?!? That just seems like a lot of me... but when I look at this next recipe I think maybe I am wrong.

Recipe 2
1 1/2 cup white vinegar
1 cup baking soda
1/4 cup salt
5 to 10 drops of tea tree essential oil for scent and its antibacterial properties (optional)

Mix salt and BS and save
Poor in Vin. (and EO) and wait

Add BS and Salt then clean with brush

This just seem sooo different... and much more chemist-y. I like the BS/ Salt idea and think I am going to keep it, but I am guessing that the other recipe is "stronger" so that would be why you need 1.5c Vin vs. 1/2- 1/3c of the other or the recipe is just misleading.  I think this is for a single use, the site was unclear, but I think you "save" the BS/ Salt as that seems like A lot of BS/ Salt to use on one cleaning, or at lest I was planing on using less and saving the mix if I make it.

Lemon Juice was something I saw added to some to some of the mixes and I though might be nice to use beings that it will be washed away thoroughly by the toilet its self and it cleans/ kills germs well, smells good, and is cheap in stead of the EOs which while are wonderful, can cost to much for our pockets at this time. So unless someone tells me they think it is a bad idea I am going to try it. The only problem is I have no idea how much to use! I was thinking 1/2 cup in exchange for the EOs in the first recipe.

Okay, I am going to go try and fix my mates power tool now, winky.gif

I don't know about those recipes you posted. I have used borax powder in my toilet. After a night soak I scrub  and  will add a few drops of  tea tree oil. I have also heard denture tablets clean the toilet well.

I pour in 1/2 c baking soda and 1/2 c vinegar, let it fizz for a bit, and then scrub and flush. Easy.
