Come to New Hampshire and you will be truely sick of Winter.  There is something so beautiful about the snow but when it starts in November by the time March rolls round you are done!!

Oh mama, how tough.  I hope for the best for your Grandfather.

FUnny,  I could use a nap.. but that's more from having 4hours sleep, spending a total of a couple of hours driving.. and then fighting the drag of the current for an hour or so lol.  So physically I could go  a nap.. mentally I feel great :)

my word for the year as I start afresh with a GOOD psychotherapist-introspection. Had a meaty session last night...talking about all that abuse is painful. My assignment is finding one thing A DAY I like about myself....oh Goddess that'll be a hard one for me.

Any ideas/links for simple rituals etc. on self-love, affirmation, appreciation, and being kinder to oneself?

love and light to all you mamas!!!

Oh cool, might just pm you.. especially if the school comes back with ideas of it being that as well.  There IS a clinic with the University of Qld that is supposed to be great here, but its $$ to get evaluated!  And I'm sure there are lots of great things to like about yourself :)   You just offered to help me help my child, and you've never even 'met' me... that's amazingly generous :D

THAT is particularly insightful, don't ya think?  There's nothing 'inherently' curative about chicken soup... so it makes a lot of sense that it's the energy & intent of hte person making it.

I find degenerative diseases like that just abou the saddest thing, because even when his body won't work anymore... his mind will be aware of what he has lost :(    That's heartbreaking.  It's good that he has made his wishes known, and hopefully that is respected.  I totally agree with you that he should be able to choose to leave this world with dignity, before everything is taken.  *hugs* to your family witchy.

In other, less earthshattering, news... pizza for dinner cause we are all pooped from the beach lol.  I do believe I'm going to have a brief nap.. the beach WAS exhilarating... but it was also done on very little sleep and a lot of work  ;)

I'm a Pagan Christian. I'm not sure how many of us are on this thread, but I thought I'd pop in. I initially was looking for ideas for new moon rituals. During from late spring to early fall, there's a full moon fire jam that happens a few miles from us. My whole family LOVED it, and it made it easy to follow the moon cycles. But then it stopped due to the cold seasons coming, and the holidays picked up, and well... you know how it is. But yesterday, I was thinking about how I would love to celebrate the new moon with my daughter. We talked about going out to take a peek at it, but we forgot in bedtime madness. Maybe we'll try to do something for the full moon? My kids are so little - almost 4 and almost 1. I don't want a full-blown ritual. Just a little something to help keep our attention to the cycles of the moon.

Someone posted about how their focus word for the year is JOY. Before I had even read this thread, I had decided that that would be my word for the year, too. I'm glad to see someone else.

Oh, and I love the pattern someone posted for a labyrinth quilt. My daughter attends a UU sunday school, and they have a finger laybrinth made of wood that they run marbles through. My daughter loves it, but they are so $$$. I'd love to think that I might make that quilt for her birthday.... but I don't know if I'll have time.

I told you you all move too fast. LOL Of course I was gone *all day* yesterday.

Caz you're son, sounds exactly like mine!!!

Has anyone ever read Natural Magick - The Essential Witch's Grimoire by Sally Dubats? I found it at a little new/used book shop over near my parents the other day. (I was waiting on my van to be serviced, they were taking forever and the kids were bored....I got lucky and found a book store :) ) I never seem to have the time to read, so I have a huge stack of books.

Hubby and I decided that we want to try to go Disney this summer/fall....I have never been, and I'm so excited! I can't wait to start planning it!

Inge, I hope your family feels better and wishing you an easy day with them home.

Cari, I'll take those degrees, too, please and bottle up some frost to send for when the heat gets to you in the bargain....smile.gif

Welcome, revolting.  I have a Catholic husband, and we are raising our children Catholic (and when they are older they can and will make their own decisions.) So the Christian/Pagan balance is not unfamiliar to me.

Simple new moon rituals -- well, the new moon phase lasts 3 days, I believe, so you can still take a peek  tonight, I would expect?  We are having our best moon views in the early morning this time of year.  We're further north than you are, about the 53rd parallel.  I am up at 6:30 local time, and it is a good couple hours before sunrise at this time of year.  We see the moon and Venus low in the sky to the southeast.  Very beautiful.

I also follow the practice of getting the house clean before the new moon and lighting a candle and saying a special prayer for the coming moon on the day.  The next new moon is Feb 3 and it is also Chinese New Year, the Lunar New Year, and the day after Imbolc/Candlemas.  There are lots of interesting traditions related to Chinese New Year that are very child-friendly and it is a great way to learn about the importance of the lunar cycle in human culture - the oldest civilization in the world (or so my Chinese ESL students always affirmed) sets its most important holiday by the moon.

There are also some nice nursery rhymes and songs about the moon that I've taught my kids and that they sing whenever we see the moon. We say "I see the moon" which apparently was originally a spell against evil.  That one is great for helping a child understand that the moon is the same the world over, and that watching the moon binds all of us together and always has.  We also sing a song from one of Laurie Berkner's albums - I found the youtube - it is very pretty.

I also do Treasure Maps with my children and review them on the new moon.  There's a thread about them in spirituality if you haven't heard of htem.

My cousin asked me to go sometime in March. I originally said no, but then I thought what an opportunity! I had the Harry Potter world on my TM for a couple of years. I don't think it's on last year's, but this would be the golden moment, I think.

Then I looked at the calendar and Easter's not till the  end of April! I am going to ask her if she'd rather do it then. I wonder when her kids have off of school. I really do want to go see M in March, and I don't want to do two trips in one month. This last thing with my mom's and M's and all that driving and flying and what-not really burnt me out. Of course, it was a holiday, too, but still. I travel too dang much!

maia: how long do you usually spend at M's? is there anyway he can come up to visit you for a long weekend? (just wondering)

Thanks ktg:)  The kids made it to school today but DH is still down for the count:(  I wish I could get my DS to get in the picture but he's so shy, my girls on the other hand any chance to get silly in front of a camera, they're in!  Thanks:)

Morning all:)  I have been up every 2 to 3 hours tending the fire.  I love my wood stove but it needs to be bigger for the size of our house.  It does a great job of keeping the place warm I just have to feed it too often.

Today I am going to spend time getting rid of the cold germs in this place, I don't want this baby coming back through.  I hope everyone has a great day:)

Welcome revolting!  I'm manifesting Joy this year too!  :)  I was raised in a very conservative catholic family (Irish catholic on one side, Italian catholic on the other lol) and the first steps along my own spiritual path were definately what I'd call "christo pagan".  And dh only recently decided that, for him, "mystical christianity" wasn't where he was meant to be (growing into a more specifically pagan practice).  I think it's a pretty common blend, and there are some wonderful books that embrace the christo-pagan worldview.

I'm waiting for the dr's office to call... did blood work yesterday, they should have results this afternoon.  I'm really REALLY nervous, hope everything is ok, and am focused on the whole "JOY" element.  What a way to start the year!  LOL.

Disney- world or land?  I know it's a bit silly, but I ADORE Disney (even though I know all the dirt... I used to do Walt and/or the company as a research paper topic more or less every year) and would love to go.

Clay- thinking of you!!

Disney- I admit, while I loathe the Disney Princess franchise, I adore Pooh Bear, Mickey, Monsters Inc and Toy Story. We went to disney several years ago and loved it. We hope to go back in a 2 years.

Sending healing to those who are sick or have sick kids/hubbies/wives! Bella has therapy, little kids are staying home with me this morning and then they are off to a friend's house for play. Looking fwd to some quiet time. I started Wii Fit on Tuesday, so this will be day 3. It is pretty fun and along with walking the dogs I hope to lose 5 pounds a month or so. Gave up my coffee today, missing it, but replacing it with green tea.  In general doing ok with my wellness plan. Well, off to read the news and drink my tea. Happy day all!

Hoping for good results, Clay!

Revolting, welcome.

I usually spend 3-5 days plus travel days. He can't get away from his job, and even if he could, he refuses to get on an airplane. And he freaks at the idea of driving more than 2 hours. He's such a city guy. Me, OTOH, I grew up in airports and will drive just about anywhere. It'd be nice, though.

Hang in there, Clay hug2.gif You'll be fine. The Universe hasn't ever handed you anything you couldn't handle.

Disney-- I love Disney, too. LOVE Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. and Pixar is just brilliant. Just brilliant. Princesses-- could do without them. I had a boy, though, so not an issue, though he did go through a bit of a Princess phase when he was like 3 or 4. I love Belle, actually. She's the only one that reads, and she pooh-poohs the good looking arsehole for her books and her family (dad), which is A-OK in my book.

In '07 when ds and my mom and I went to Disney World, ds and I spent the day at Disney park counting all the little princesses lol.gif "Hey Boo! Princess alert on your left!" ROTFLMAO.gifI think we counted like 27 before the day was over. I thought for sure it'd be lots more!

Why did you give up coffee again? I am letting go of it for a week or so, too, but because I'm back on the VLCD of Hcg protocol. Today's Day1. I'm so tired of food. I didn't realize how badly the binge mentality still lives in me. I just could.not.stop.eating. after I got home from M's and back to my mom's. I ate myself sick from New Year's Eve until yesterday. I was bloated and ill and sick and STILL, I ate and ate and ate. I am relieved not to be eating today, though the thoughts are still in me. How sick is that. All I can figure is it's the "ism" part of my alcoholism.

Apparently I can't multi-quote like I used to lol

Um, which one is in Florida? That'll be the one we're going to lol

I have no idea what to expect, how to plan etc...good thing I have some time.

Autumn- Oh no, I actually don't know but we went to the one in Florida. Maybe I will take this to pm so i don't go way off topic, but I can give you more info about what we did. :)

Maia- I gave up coffee because of the tanins (sp) that are harsher in coffee than in tea, and my dr felt it might help my stomach. I have IBS. I am also getting tested for celiac, as my grandmom has it.
