The Appointment Thread - Page 2

Riley, that is so cute!!

In about an hour I go to meet with a potential midwife.  I'm still not sure how I feel about dealing with a midwife again after how I was treated by them the last couple of times.  But she seems really nice and works some interesting payment plans for people on Medicare, so I'm going to go and meet her at least.

Thanks! Gah! I'm in-love. Sheepish.gif

Bree- if it helps, with my son, they checked it at 11 weeks and couldn't hear it. Then, the next week, they heard it strong and clear. With my daughter however, we heard the heart beat at 9 weeks. So there is hope! Good luck! I remember being scared to death when they told me, with my son, that if the hb wasn't detected at 12 weeks, the dr would have to do an ultrasound to make sure the baby wasn't dead. It's nerve wracking smile.gif

Thanks.  Knowing others didn't hear it until later will help me (hopefully) not freak out.  I can't wait until Jan. 14th!!!

My first appt is February 1st. I'll be twelve weeks. This was by my choice as it's baby four and I felt comfortable with the wait. I'm getting excited though! Hopefully it'll make the pregnancy seem more real aside from the exhaustion and nausea.

I see the OB for the first time on the 17th, I'll be 11 weeks 1 day.  Up until this point I have been seeing my GYN, as he is the one that confirmed the pregnancy.

Okay, so I've already had blood work, and provided Friday's results are okay, I will have a confirmation u/s on Jan. 20th... and a midwife initial consult on the 17th of Jan. I'm a little ticked because I don't think I'm as far along as they think I am and they are going to try to hear a heartbeat at only 7.5wks and I'd rather wait until I'm at least 10wks, but maybe I can just cancel it and then reschedule it? I dunno. It's my first and while I want to hear a heartbeat, I'm so freaked out by all these stories of not hearing it until after 8-12 weeks, that I want to wait. Any thoughts?

(Adorable, btw, Riley!!)

I am going to have concurrent care from my OB/mw medical group and from my hb mw.  I have had two appointments already with my OB, the first with her CNM and the second with the OB for an u/s.  I have also done bloodwork already.  I am in contact with my hb mw, but she won't see me until I am at least 12 wks, so probably sometime in February.  I LOVE my OB and if she would do a home birth (or would even guarantee that she would be the one to attend to the birth in the hospital for that matter), I probably wouldn't even bother finding a hb mw, but she doesn't greensad.gif.  I have another appointment for an u/s and follow up with the CNM on Wednesday.  My last pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage, so my OB is doing a couple of extra u/s to be sure the baby's heart is still going strong.

Riley:  Very lovely pic!

I meet with my hb mw on Wed. I'll be 10 weeks. I'm not planning on having an u/s until 20ish weeks. If she wants to try to hear the hb that's fine but if she wants to wait until the next appt that's fine too. I have had significant morning (all-day!) sickness so I'm pretty confident in this little bean smile.gif It should be an interesting meeting though as I saw her with my 1st pregnancy which was great until stuff hit the roof at 31 weeks when I found out I was carrying twins, then my water broke..... due to position they were born via c-section so needless to say she did not end up attending their birth. So with my 2nd preg I was kinda dealing with many mixed emotions about my first birth and, I'll admit, fears about something going wrong. So I choose a different mw whose birth center was much closer to a hospital. She is no longer practicing and I am over my fears and am so excited to return to my original mw, I just hope there's no akwardness about me having seen someone else.... lol, am I being ridiculous?! It's like when you get a haircut from someone different and don't want to tell your hairdresser!

I have an appointment with my CNM on January 17 when I will be 10 weeks.  That is MLK day, and both DH and I have off work that day which makes in convenient.  They are going to listen to the heartbeat and do blood work.  I'm also due for my annual pap, so they will do that.  Not sure how long I will continue to see her, though, because it is well known that they will fire you immediately once they find out you are planning a homebirth.  We have some sticky birth politics in our area.

DH and I met with 4 different homebirth midwives last week.  DH wasn't sure about homebirth at all, but after meeting with the midwives he's comfortable with it (yay!).  We decided on one we wanted to work with and I e-mailed her today to let her know.  I think she probably won't see me until 12 weeks or so, but I'll be in communication with her until then.

On-going nausea reminds me all the time that yup, I'm pregnant!

Hey the 14th is my son's birthday! That's a good day so hopefully another good thing happens for you too!

Update:
I did have my appointment today and they have agreed that I am very high risk so, I go in next Tuesday at 11:30 for my first ultrasound at 8 weeks, 4 days. Then I will see my dr afterwards because they are trying to decide whether this pregnancy warrants starting my blood thinner injections like my last one due to a blood clot. So we shall see about baby then.

No, I think you're fine.  You can just tell her that you really missed having her the second time around, but you were so nervous something would go wrong that you wanted to be nearer to a hospital.  She obviously knows you like her or you wouldn't be going back.  No worries.

On a side note...what a shocker to find out at 31 weeks that you have 2 babies!  Holy smokes!  Did you have any idea?  In hindsight do you remember signs that suggested it?

I'll be going in on Feb 5th? I haven't actually asked my mw if she's available that day, but that's my first choice - I should probably send her a message and ask...

I just found out today that I'm 8 wks 6 days and am totally surprised. I had a miscarriage 2nd one this year) on Nov 1, so that means I o'd within days!

I'm a bit nervous because i've been spotting all day since the exam and ultrasound. They took blood to check my levels, I heard the heartbeat on ultrasound and I'm still feeling pregnant, so I hope everything is ok.

I'm cautiously optimistic for an Aug 10 baby!

I have canceled my u/s for the 20th and have made three midwife appointments (hopefully with decent payment plans - as I am now uninsured - yay!). I want to be mad that I have to deal with not having insurance, but something tells me this was the only way for me to be able to do the home birth that I dreamed of anyway, so I'm just confused and exhausted. LOL

I had my first appointment with my ob/gyn today!!!  She said everything feels/looks good for 7 weeks.  Apparently they routinely do first trimester ultrasounds to date the pregnancy.  Has anyone ever heard of this before?  I was surprised since I'm not in any high risk categories.  Anyway, I am going for an ultrasound a week from today and I'll be 8 weeks.  Kind of excited to have more confirmation that the little bean is developing as it should be!  Also have to go to get my bloodwork done this week and then in 3 weeks I have another appt at which I can hopefully hear the heartbeat.  This should be a very exciting month!!!

Wow!  Sending you sticky bean vibes!!

Bonadl2 - yeah, a routine u/s is pretty normal.  I had one last pg.  Very exciting indeed!

We had our U/S on the 29th and didn't see or hear the HB at 7w 4d.  But they were able to measure it though.  We go to the OB on Fri (7th) and we'll be 8w 6d then.  Not sure if we can sneak another U/S in or not!
