Wow, I am sorry to hear about your insurance!  Are you able to get something before bambino arrives?  I wish you the best dealing with the hassle!  :)

Thanks... I think we will be okay. We definitely have options and I have an appointment with someone at my church on Friday who will be able to help me navigate the "system".

You know, it's sort of funny to me. For years and years, I made an amazing salary and had fabulous insurance and never needed it for much. And DH was the same way... but when we met a few years ago, we had both been laid off and were working part-time jobs and going back to school full-time.

I had insurance through school up until the end of the year, but now I'm back to working full-time... I'm grateful for it, but it's a relatively low-paying job with no benefits and DH's school insurance doesn't have family coverage options. I don't qualify for state healthcare because we make just over the cutoff for it, but private insurance won't cover me either because I'm pregnant and the state insurance pool is outrageous and almost twice as much as midwife payments and has a six-month pre-existing clause (which includes pregnancy). Apparently, state insurance is not bound by laws that say pregnancy can't be considered a pre-existing condition.

OMG. I am just laughing so hard right now... the fact is, I know God will take care of me and my growing family, but I can't help but see the irony of all this. Plus, if you don't laugh, you'll cry. KWIM? My major goal in this pregnancy is to reduce my anxiety levels... LMAO!!!

Anyway, I have three midwife appointments set and I am PSYCHED for a homebirth!!

I am going for a "nurse intake appt" on friday.....think its just an initial new patient appt for blood work etc but i was wondering if anyone knows what blood work they are actually doing?  do they routinly check Doppler heart baets at nurse appts?  LOL its kinda funny im asking....I'm a nurse but know absolutely diddly about LnD nursing!!  everything feels so foreign to me :)

mamlimey - My office wont do doppler until after 10 weeks because it's still early - you're right on the border, so they may or may not! I have my bloodwork order in hand, conveniently, and this is what I am getting done (not sure what it all is....you may know though with your background!):

CBC, with differential

Urine Culture

Type & Screen

Hepatitis BS Antigen

Rubella Screen

Treponema Pallidum (RPR)

HIV Antibody w/Reflex WB

I had a great appt with my hb mw yesterday. No akwardness at all and I am so glad to be back in her care, she is just such an awesome woman! And..... I got to hear the heartbeat!  I was 10wks 1 day so I wasn't counting on it but it was such a nice surprise. Yay!

Had my first appointment and ultrasound today and the baby looks great! Saw the heartbeat going and it was wiggling and kicking. Seeing it move around really suprised me, I guess I didn't realize it would be that baby like yet! Got 7 vials of blood taken, that was loads of fun. Luckily I didn't pass out this time. Didn't get to meet my Midwife yet though, that happens on the 14th.

Awesome!!!  What did it sound like?  I have an appointment next Friday and I will be exactly 11 weeks.  I am sooooo hoping I get to hear her/him too!

That does sound fun.  It must be so cool to see it moving around.  Congrats!

I went to the nurse midwife at the clinic that my medi-cal is signed up with yesterday.  I had made an appointment to have an utrasound, brought mom, DH and DS and turns out all they did was confirm pregnancy.  I KNOW I am pregnant, that is why I called.  They then scheduled me for an ultra sound appointment, and orientation appointment, a group care appointment and then my first real appointment with the midwife.  I am going to have to go almost every day of the week.  The waiting room is with all the clinic pacients so there are sick people there to dr's too and toys with sick kids around.  That is really not where I want to spend my next week. 

The midwife was weird, the nurse was rude.  It took over an hour to tell me I was pregnant and schedule some more appointments.  They did schedule me for an ultrasound on monday.

We got home and I called the home birth midwife that we all love and hired her straight away.  I feel so much better.  Utrasound monday, nice relaxing appointment with hb midwife tuesday.  We have to give her a ton of money but who cares its just money right.

I had some stabbing pains in my lower abdomen today so had a surprise appointment and ultrasound. Baby was in my uterus and the heart rate was 158. :) Repeat ultrasound in two weeks to keep an eye on things, I have a bicornuate uterus.

Glad everything is ok!  And yay for a great (even if a surprise) heartbeat!!

Lovingmommyhood-so glad it all worked out......158 huh....sounds like a girl to me! I have been told that hr greater than 140's = girl and less than 140 = boy.

Mamalimey, I wouldn't put too much on the heartbeat/gender theory. Last time my baby's heartbeat was always in the 160's and turned out to be a boy. He was a very wriggly active baby (still is, his legs never stop moving) and so he had a fast heart rate.

I finally called the doctor's office yesterday (I hate their automated system!) and when I finally got someone to answer the phone  (took several goes, I don't leave voicemails as I still have a strong Scottish accent , think Shrek, so often other people can't understand me over the phone) I got my initial appointment for January 31st. It is just a talking appointment with the CNM to go over the paperwork and medical history etc. I'll be 9wk6d and then have to go back at 12wk to see the OB for the actual physical etc. They have 4 OB/GYNs and 2 CNMs and I have to see all of them in rotation. I've already dealt with 3 of the OBs and liked all of them.

The heartrate thing has never worked for a single child of mine, I have 3, 2 girls and 1 boy. It is one of the those old wives tales, there are so many out there, based on how you carry, if you have acne, on and on. Fun but it is 50/50 either way!

Yeah, it is fun to use the hr theory to try and guess but like others have said, it's not reliable. Everyone had me so convinced my son was a girl based on the hr alone. It was so frustrating too bc I had the feeling it was a boy and it kind of got my hopes down. So I went into the ultrasound convinced it was a girl that when the tech, my hubby and my mom all said, "it's a boy!" I didn't believe them at first. Like someone else said, he was just a very active little boy with a very fast hr. So I wouldn't put too much faith in the hr alone.

I am so PSYCHED!  I just came back from my first official appt and got to see my little cutie.  They estimated my due date differently now, they think it is July 30th - but I don't want to switch to the July threads.  So that puts me at 11w2d and omg was that baby MOVING!  It is having a dance party in there.  It was amazing to see.  I heard a heartrate of 174bpm.  It was awesome.

 Yay!!! That is so awesome that you got to see your baby and hear the heart rate!! Wow, the heart rate is pretty fast! My son's was around 176 bpm at 11 weeks! Good luck in the rest of your pregnancy.

Thank you everybody! It really did help me to feel like the pregnancy was more real. I'm sure that sounds rather ridiculous but with no belly and no kicks it's hard for me. lol.

I'm feeling kind of regretful about not having a first tri u/s.  I was fine up until a couple of days ago, and then tonight I tried to hear the heartbeat with a doppler at work.  We have a little u/s machine, too, and I scanned myself and saw NOTHING.  I couldn't hear the hb with the doppler either.  I'm just feeling a little impatient about not having any proof that there is a living baby in there.  I feel pregnant, and I am growing, but dang it!  I want to see or hear my little one and start to bond with her.  I'm tired of constipation and fatigue being my only friends right now!  My first midwife appt is Monday the 17th.  9 more days, but it feels like forever right now.

I'm just having a little hormonal, depressed, pity party right now.
