Your weight on TF?

Ok, give me the skinny (pun intended) on your weight on TF? Particularly those heavy on the animal products/fat? I've been on the paleo/TF-type path for many years, but finally jumping off the cliff with both feet. But I'm just a little nervous about gaining weight. Yes, everything in my head tells me that I won't gain, but the pit of my stomach keeps whispering to me in scary voices... Is it possible you even lose weight?

I dropped eleven pounds in the first six weeks. I will also point out I am a personal trainer, so even I was a little surprised. My husband thinks it's crazy that I have lost body fat while eating bacon and eggs for breakfast. winky.gif

I weigh 113 and am 5'5.  I am breastfeeding a toddler and eat huge portions all the time or I will waste away.  I recently went grain free excpet brown rice and I eat fatty meat, lots of tallow, olive oil and tons of potatoes- all huge portions and I recetly lost the post pregnany pouch!  I lost weight but not sure of how much.  And I don't exercise except chase kids.  Now I need to exercise to gain muscle weight as I am short on that.

Well, I'm fat right now, lol.  But I just had a baby, and only started getting into NT about half way through my pregnancy with him. However, I'm getting ready to start Eat Fat, Lose Fat (a traditional foods approach to weight loss developed by Sally Fallon and Mary Enig), so we'll see.  I'm going to try and blog it at Nourishing Weight Loss, if you want to follow along!

To get down to a good weight I had to really go primal (no grains, beans, etc.) and get rid of my allergens (eggs, almonds, dairy).  Regular TF just didn't do it for me.  I think I'm way too sensitive to carbs.  Even soaked grains are disastrous for me.

My weight doesn't seem to be affected that much by eating TF/non-TF, except to the extent that non-TF can include too much sugar.  bag.gif  Avoiding foods I'm intolerant of, gluten and dairy, let my body shed a lot of weight effortlessly.  I happened to be eating a lot of fat and a lot of meat at the time, but that's not a requirement of TF, and for me I think that was more useful because I was very rundown and I found them nourishing and rebuilding--I had a lot of rebuilding to do.  Pay attention to how much fat feels comfortable--some people feel best on really, really high fat diets, others eat considerably less and feel good--I'm sure part is inherent to differences in peoples' bodies, but some people do best high fat/high meat for a temporary period as a means to feeling better, and then transition to somewhere else on the spectrum.

I'm very carb sensitive too, my TF WOE is fairly primal, and I LOVE my saturated fats eat.gif

When I first began I was still taking antidepressant meds, so that may have affected why I did NOT lose any weight in the first month or so. I did lose INCHES though, and I think that my increase in protein/fat replenished the muscle and bone atrophy I caused to my body over years of "healthy eating" and exercise. After getting off my meds, eliminating suspected food allergens, and beginning the practice of intermittent fasting, the weight started falling off of my body (In addition to eliminating carbs, I think the IF helped my body to correct a problem with insulin resistance). The I got pregnant love.gif.

My diet is very heavy in animal protein and fats. I was about 97% carnivorous before I found out we were expecting, then I just added more veggies, cream, butter, and cheese. I've maintained this WOE throughout my pregnancy and at 37 weeks have only gained about 10 pounds. I have felt nothing short of amazing since I changed my eating habits more than a year ago. Bonus benefit is that my cholesterol numbers have greatly improved on this WOE.

ETA: I also found I'm one of those that loses better when I add MORE fat to my diet. It makes sense for those that are insulin resistant/carb sensitive, as the body still manufactures glucose from dietary protein, so if the protein part of the ratio is too high, it can have the same effect as consuming a decent amount of carbs for that individual.

I have been a steady 119 lb at 5'5" for 4 years now. I eat about 3/4-1lb meat/day. Tons of veggies, including fresh juice and green smoothies. Tons of fat, 1/2 c. coconut milk in my smoothie, 1 T. of fat on every cooked serving of veggies (usually lard or coconut oil), and recently I started 3-5 T. of coconut oil a day because I am cold all the time. I usually bake with almond flour once a week. We eat very little grains, maybe 1 c. of cooked rice in a meatloaf once a week, and I make dd soaked buckwheat pancakes about once a week, but I don't usually eat any.

I gained 25 lbs after I started TF but that was because I didn't yet get the carb connection.  Since cutting gluten and then carbs and doing some gut-healing with the GAPS diet, I have lost 70 lbs.  I do great on a high-fat (about 70%), low carb diet but when the carbs sneak back in my weight will start to creep up.

DH and I both gained weight after starting TF, but lost a bunch after we went grain free and sugar free (except for what is is veggies and fruit). I am 118, 5'3" and DH is 180, 5'11". We both have plateau-ed and stayed this way for over a year now, and this is actually what we weighed in college.

My husband and I are still fat - LOL  But we both lost 30 lbs in the first 6 months or so.  And it came off very slowly and steadily.  We think that it was the huge increase in vit D from the cod liver oil that really helped us.  I find that when I am good and eat a very high fat, egg breakfast, I don't have snack cravings all day and I therefore don't get that panic-ed feeling of "I need food" which is what makes me over eat.

I always knew that I needed a lot of protein, but it never really filled me up.  Now that I load on the cream, butter, etc, with breakfast, I can go all day without eating.  Cutting out canola oil and eating lots of animals fats allowed me to feel like I was no longer a food addict looking for my next fix - it was an amazingly liberating feeling and the first time I had ever felt it.

Also, on this diet, my dad is losing weight for the first time in 40 years.
