HELP IN AZ! ROGUE MIDWIFE OR NATURAL OB!

Thread Starter

I have had my last two births in NC. First planned for the hospital... second planned a home birth ended up with transferred care the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy due to high blood pressure.. so ended up back at the hospital. I am expecting again and had found a midwife. But I found out that I am expecting twins and now she says she can not provide care because of the laws in AZ. I do not want a hospital birth. I have had horrible experiences and am terrified that I will end up with so many stupid interventions... and especially because of twins I am fearing a c section. I know my body can do this. My sister gave birth naturally with her twins and one was footling breech... luckily her OB is awesome and just let her do her thing during labor. But I heard that most hospitals make you give birth in the OR even if everything is going fine " just in case" There is no way my body can relax enough to give birth in that kind of environment. Anyway I am rambling.

I was just wondering if anyone knows of a rogue midwife who would attend a home birth of twins.

Or an OB who is very organic and isnt so hung up on the fact that DRs are NEEDED for birth... someone who will let the process happen without constant monitoring and interventions.

Am I just doomed for another horrible birth experience? Sad

Wish I had answers for you. Can you call some midwives and see If they know a more natural OB?

maybe try posting in the tribal area for your state.  Someone might know of one.

Where in AZ are you?  While some mws will travel I don't know if they would travel for twins.  I suggest starting at the  azdhs.gov/als/databases/index.htm  bottom one - az midwives.  Just go through and call the midwives one by one or ask them who they recommend.  GL!

I'm expecting in Tucson right now. From what I understand, yes because of the laws, there are no midwives that will deliver twins or breech at home.

I hope you can find someone who will mama.

Sorry.

In Tucson Jim Macciula at UMC will deliver breech babies. He did my amnio and he's technically very good, but he's got a bizarre sense of humor. Are there midwives that could attend your birth in a hospital setting?

I'd second James Maciulla at UMC.  As a doula I've attended vaginal twins with him a few times. Even when baby B is breech he's still game.  I've also done a twin VBAC with him as well.

He does have a pretty unique sense of humor and overall presence, but I'd go to him and him alone if I was pregnant with twins and wanted a vaginal birth.

I don't know of any hospital based CNM that can deliver twins, around here they're typically considered high risk.

Maciulla will be your best bet, hands down.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like more info on him, I'd be more than happy to discuss it with you.
