Flying while newly pregnant...

Is there anything I need to know? I've heard that you're exposed to minimal amounts of radiation while flying. Does anyone have more info? I will be flying during the 'critical period' (I will be 5 weeks, 3 days along on the flight there at 7 weeks on the way home). I'm really worried!! If there is a risk, what can I do to help minimize it? Oh! What about the scanners and stuff that you have to go through? Thanks, ladies!! :-)

I would absolutely not go through the new TSA scanner, pregnant or not, because I'm scared of the radiation. I would opt out and let them do the enhanced pat down if I had to, rather than go through the scanner.

But 4 yrs ago I flew at 6 wks pregnant from TX to Cali and  7 wks on my way back and my baby turned out just perfect. So maybe that will help ease your mind a little. I don't know how to minimize any risks, but we were fine.

I will say, however, that I had terrible, terrible morning (all day really) sickness and flying was horrible for that reason. I highly recommend bringing peppermints or anything else that might help you if you are feeling nauseous. I decided after that trip that if we are blessed with more kids I would never fly while having morning sickness again!

hopefully that won't be the case for you!
