DH took over all nighttime parenting a few months ago when we NW'd DS and moved him into his own bed- full size mattress.  Now DH is stuck in DS's bed for the majority of each night, sometimes the whole night because DS wants to touch someone next to him every time he wakes.  Although everyone is sleeping better than a few months ago, especially me now that I am getting larger and more uncomfortable in pregnancy at night, DH is feeling like it is just too much to spend every night with DS.  DS does more than just touch DH- he whines, cries, and will try to sleep on top of DH so there is no way DH can sleep through it.  DS will be 18 mo in a few weeks and has always been a frequent nightwaker.  We have gone through periods where he will sleep 5 or even 7 hours for the first stretch and then only wake 2x or so the rest of the night, but we haven't had that since around 15 months or so.  He has been getting molars and has 3.5 of them in, so maybe the sleep will get better once that last one is done?  I'm not hopeful that the molar will solve everything though.

Any thoughts/suggestions/experience with a lovey or night light at this age?  Anything to help DS find comfort in those precious seconds of waking that can blow up on us or smoothly pass?
