Faint positive on the hpt at 11-12 weeks?

I posted this in my ddc, but thought I might get some experienced info here.

I am 11 or 12 weeks pregnant right now, and took a  hpt out of the blue yesterday and the positive line was so faint I could hardly see it. I called my midwife and she told me it was probably normal, and that at this time hcg levels are tapering off, and that the hpt tests are designed to pick up pregnancy really early, and that it's probably no biggie.

I took another test this morning (different brand), and the line is definitely darker, but it is still faint.

For the past month and a half I've been VERY nauseated, sore boobs, fatigued, etc. The past few days the m/s has subsided a bit. So all the preggo symptoms are there, and I haven't had any signs of m/c.

I did have a m/c a few months ago, and this pregnancy is totally different, so although things are going well, I"m still a little nervous about the faint line.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

The strength of the line means nothing- it depends on a lot of things, including how that particular stick was made and what kind of dye and how much dye they used and so on.

Yup, a line is a line! :)

When I was POAS several times a day confirming my pregnancy with DS2 I also found big differences in line darkness between different lot numbers from the same manufacturer.  And youe MW is right -- the hormone detected by HPTs tapers off and eventually a HPT will read negative even though you are preggers.

I found the 10-13 week period very hard too.  My 1st tri symptoms disappeared but I didn't feel the baby moving yet.  And I never did an early u/s and didn't use doppler.  It was a real exercise in faith in my body and my baby.  I did start feeling the baby move at 14 weeks though and we even eventually heard his hb with a fetoscope at 20 weeks :)  And he's here in my arms nursing right now.

Good luck, mama!

Thanks mamas for your reassuring words!

Well, I retested with diluted urine earlier, and got a very dark line!smile.gif

Apparently, the hpts will only read an hcg number of so high, and then it will stop registering. Or something of that nature....called the hook effect. Don't know if I explained that right, but another mama in my ddc posted some research, and sure enough it was the case!

So happy!!joy.gif

No more hptesting for me!
