I got a little bit of Christmas money that I'd like to apply towards something practical that makes our life easier. I actually thought about putting it towards the debt snowball, but realized that it may be just as useful if I were to get something that made preparing meals at home quickly.

At first I thought about getting a cast iron wok. I've never cooked with a wok before, but the idea of quickly stir frying supper has great appeal for me.

However, we never replaced our hundred year old microwave when it finally died last year and I have to say reheating left overs in the oven and on the stove has been a pain. I thought about getting another microwave, but I'd like to avoid it and have heard great things about convection ovens. The idea of being able to reheat leftovers quickly and not heating up the entire apartment on a hot summer day to bake a loaf of bread is very appealing.

Looking on Amazon, there is this and I love the fact that it has a rotisserie feature. However, I'm a bit skeptical over all the hype that convection ovens have gotten. Will it really save electricity? Will it be quicker? And is it really possible that I can get a good quality product for under $100?

I almost have no elecric appliances in my kitchen because my experience has been that they don't last. I don't want to blow my Christmas money on something that really isn't worth getting in the long run, kwim?
